Getting Cashier / Bank Checks Empty Getting Cashier / Bank Checks

Post by Explorador Fri Jun 19, 2015 4:52 pm

I may be needing to get some bank checks. I plan to withdraw pesos from an ATM machine and trade the pesos at the counter for a peso denominated check. Sound easy, right?

I expect there to be a nominal fee, but I don't want to get taken.

Has anybody done this and had success or problems or discovered the best place to go? Are all banks / financial institutions created equal when it comes to something like this?

Thanks!

I don't know if you can do that without an account.

seems to me if you give the bank the cash, you shouldn't have to need an account but logic does not always come in to play here does it.

It seems like that to me too, but some banks provide no services unless you have an account with them. Same NOB.

Ask at the bank first. You may not get a bank check but they would likely do a money order.

I think banks here don't do money orders. Bank transfers and checks, yes.

Banorte and after that Scotia Inverlat. Both were over five years ago so things may have changed, but I doubt it. Wheels turn very slowly here.

So I went to Santander in Chapala and they said I had to have an account. I asked for recommendations and they didn't have any. I gave up on this option and didn't pursue it any further.
