Going to Chiapas Empty Going to Chiapas

Post by CanuckBob Mon Jul 06, 2015 8:40 am

Just booked a trip to San Cristibol for October. I am pretty excited to see this beautiful state. Volaris had a deal on flights. $45 USD each way to Tuxtla Gutiérrez. We are staying at the Hotel Docecuartos. I'll be sure to post a full report.

Actually it is a pretty normal deal , you just have to look for the low prices with Volaris or Vivaaerobus. I love these cheap airlines.. The cab ride to San Cristobal 1h 30 mn away was 600 pesos last time I took it , maybe more now, will find out in a week or so when I go back..

The problem with going at that time is that the rivers are muddy and not beautifully clear like swimming pools like they are in March or April. The Day of the Dead is a do not miss event in the mountains.

If you go to lower altitudes tan San Cristóbal make sure you wear mosquitoe repellent. Within the last few days 11 people I know called me to tell me they got chikungunya. It is really bad in San Fernando (near Tuxtla or Chiapa de Corzo) Simojovel, northern Chiapas, Venuziano Carranza and Comitan (near the lakes of Montebellos)
I have not spoken to anyone from Palenque or around the jungle but I would thing that anywhere in the Ocosingo Municipality is bad too.
Most of the people who called me are saying it is way more painful than the dengue. They may have forgotten about the dengue..but I never heard that many people coming down with the dengue and also telling me that many people in their family have it as well..it sounds pretty bad right now.
I will be there in October and I will make sure I protect myself because that is one thing I do not need... I may even skip the idea of spending time on the coast down there.
By the way all of these people sleep under nets and they are all telling me they got bitten during the day.

San Cristóbal is too cold for mosquitoes so at least that is one good thing.

IT looks like you will have good luck on the weather. It has been dry in the low twenties with splendid days. Cool evening morning and night but not cold and so far no rain..hope it last.
The roads down to chiapas were a nightmare this time we got stuck by 5 bloqueos in 3 days...lots of unhappy campesinos and politicians , the center that has just been repainted is covered with political grafitti..you may want to bring Maincoon to give them some advice.. Very Happy
