Last Night's Weird Storm

Around midnight late Saturday/early Sunday night we experienced a strange storm here in Ajijic--almost constant lightning flashes, but without any of the crashing thunder you would expect, just a constant growling noise accompanying blasts of wind. We're wondering if any meteorologists or weather mavens can provide an explanation.

Light travels further than sound? The thunder was not near? Wind, well it blows.

Piecing together info from the other board and some research: The lightning is probably intra-cloud or sheet lightning. The type and constancy of the lightning combined with its distance probably resulted in the slowly rolling thunder.

Another name is sky to sky lightning and we have had a ton of it lakely. It does sound very different from sky to ground lightning.
