How to set up a Skype phone call account

Trying to set up a Skype phone calling account with getting a number for me and also putting some credit on the account, but the only option is to subscribe to a 3 month or 6 month plan, but I only want to put XX amount of dollars on credit. How do I do this? Skype doesn't give an option to set up a phone number or put credit on the account. HELP !

Skype can be confusing. Your calling is what you make deposits for, unless you have a subscription to call unlimited. A Skype phone number you have to subscribe for 3 or 12 months.

Right. I have a reserved number but it won't give it to me unless I subscribe, which I am not going to do. I have put credit on the account and I have made a call and it goes through. The main thing is for me to be able to call someone from where ever I am with wi fi.

True, but only to a Skype user. To call a phone number you have to have deposited money for its use called Skype Credit or have a subscription.

I have been a user for many years, but as my subscriptions expire I will not continue. Both my Telmex house phone and my AT&T cell have unlimited calling to the US, why pay Skype. That is unless you wish to appear calling from the US.

Yes, you have to have money deposited but you still don't need a number. You also don't need money on account for calling 1-800 numbers.

If I get a 3 months subscription to buy a phone number, if I don't renew the subscription after 3 months and just keep credit on the account, do I lose my number, or will it stay for ever since I bought it.

The money will ride on your Skype account. You do not need a number, as Cbob said, to call out. You can receive calls from another Skyper calling your account name.

No, no pay equals no number. Your incoming number is by subscription, your Skype name is perpetual. In addition, you can call out with extra payment or free to another Skype name.

I've had a skype pone number for years. Comes in very handy in all sorts of situations, and especially when I'm in Europe. I guess I have a subscription, but they only charge me when my balance goes below a pre-determined amount, like $5. It's definitely not where I pay every three months regardless of usage.

CM, calling and getting calls are two different sub-accounts. From what you say, you do not have a subscription to call. What you are using is a per minute charge against that credit.
