On The Subject of Puerto Rico

The attitude toward Puerto Rico is guided by U.S. blatant racism against people of Spanish heritage. Plain and simple. The United States is dominated by Northern European Whites and folks from Africa originally introduced to North America as slaves but later brought into the fold. The Northern Europeans who conquered most of North America look down their noses at first nations people and their Spanish overlords. Racist dogs. Puerto Rico should be a U.S. State but aint gone happen

Actually PR becoming a State could happen IF the citizens of PR decide they want their Isla to become a state. To date tPuerto Rican have consistently & repeatedly voted against statehood. There are practical pros & cons / advantages & disadvantages to statehood status . But as demonstrated during this crises Boricuas value greatly their own Puerto Rican language, culture , h.istory traditions and individual identity. Ifn fact if you were born on the Isla or at least one of your parents was born on the Isla you are a 'citizen' of PR as well as a citizen of the US. You are BOTh American and Puerto Rican .

I'm not so sure about all that. From what I see on TV, there is plenty of supplies and help on the island but it is devastated and getting the supplies moved is a problem.

The total power grid is down which limits fuel, water etc.

When you have damage on that level, it takes time to get help in.

A week? Come on!

Helicopters. Amphibious vehicles. They don't have any problem getting troops on the ground when they want to go to war.

The U.S. came into possession of both Puerto Rico and the Philippines at the same time. The Philippines is an independent nation now and Puerto Rico should be, too.

The US also grabbed Guam, still US Territory, and Cuba for a very short time, from the Spanish colonial empire at the same time. Japan grabbed the Marianas from Spain at the same time but they became US Territory after WWII.

The bottom line is money, Puerto Rico doesn't have any and barring a miracle never will.

Yep and the US has enough rum, sugar cane and holiday destinations so they don't want/need them either.
