El Boquinete Restaurant - Tonala
One of the complaints that we have often heard is that it is hard to find a decent restaurant in Tonala. Years ago, we used to go to El Rincon del Sol and got to know the manager. In 2006, we discovered that Oscar had moved on and opened his own restaurant called El Boquinete. What has always amazed us about Oscar is that he always remembers us even though our visits are infrequent. El Boquinete is located in the alleyway directly behind the Hotel Tonala and less than a block from the main plaza. Great food, super margaritas and a jovial and entertaining owner. Get to know Oscar and we can virtually guarantee a good time!

I want to retract the recommendation of this restaurant since we just found out yesterday that Oscar has gone out of business! The restaurant is barely operating with a new staff. We met there for lunch and they had to go out and purchase tequila and rum to simply make drinks and after that took so long, we decided to eat elsewhere. Things were not looking good!

Is Rincon del Sol still a good option?

When we bailed out on El Boquinette, that is exactly where we went after not going there for about six years. We must admit that they have expanded their menu with a nice selection of new entrees. We ate there yesterday and again today and our choices were quite good!
