And so what? A death is still a death regardless of age. And what exactly is the definition of "elderly"? Really?

As far as individuals are concerned that is true. However, as far as nature and survival of the species goes it is better to kill off the old and other vulnerable members of the species — culling the herd so to speak. Us old farts are expendable whether we like it or not.

In an epidemic of smallpox, we old folks may be the only survivors, since we have all been immunized by innoculation, while the younger generations were not. If there are any fertile survivors, who will teach them........

I'm past the fertility stage so count me out.
And I'm not making fun of your post since your information has a valid point. Just some black humour to an otherwise emotionally dismal day.

RV, don't forget the milkmaids! A case of cowpox can give natural immunity to smallpox. Fertile young milkmaids will be beating down your door begging for your "wisdom". Thumbs up I haven't actually seen a milkmaid in awhile.

He's fine! They're having a blast. I think they're still in southern Vietnam, where they've finally got some sun and blue sky. Good looking food. They post many photos daily.

He's posting on FB.

Very Happy This cracked me up! Had lunch at a lovely restaurant (that shall remain nameless) yesterday. There were TWO dogs there (one out on the patio and one INSIDE.) I immediately thought of Gringal. My lunch was delicious and I have not yet come down with the plague — or fleas.

We are having a blast. Just winding down the last 5 days in Hoi An and then off to Ho Chi Mihn tomorrow. I gotta say southern Vietnam is my favorite place here in Asia. It is incredibly cheap with great weather, fantastic food and beautiful beaches. It is about the same prices as Mexico was 20 years ago. If it weren't for the distance I would consider relocating to here. Everyone speaks English in all the countries we visited. Far more so than Mexico. I highly recommend a visit for anyone looking for an exotic vacation.

The humidity is not as bad as the coast in Mexico but it is winter here. There are a ton of gringos here in Hoi An. I understand there are several gringo groups around Vietnam. I prefer the Asian culture and food over Mexico. The people are super friendly. I've never seen so many scooters in my life......haha.

The humidity might be brutal in the summer.

Move there! Sounds wonderful. I'll come visit! What do they require to immigrate?

Surely you must have something more creative to occupy your mind than finding someone to ridicule. Most of us gave that up after high school.

Nah it's way too far away from friends and family. Too expensive to fly here. My friends and family have no problems coming to Mexico but doubt we would get many visitors here. Plus you have that 12 hour time difference. It too bad as I would love it here.

I think to get a residency visa you have to show them $55k USD in a bank account. Easier than Mexico where we had to show $127k USD each.

We rented motorcycles and rode the coastal highway from Hue to Hoi An. What an adventure that was. Incredible twisty highway with awesome views. Primarily used by motorcycles and the occasional truck. Roads are in great shape, even in the small villages. No topes anywhere.....lol. it was a one way trip taking about 4 hours. The rental company delivered our luggage when they picked up the bikes at our hotel in Hoi An.
