Makes no difference to me. Zuckerberg is a a$$hole so hopefully they brush him onto the highway.....

Although I would be happy if there was no Facebook, sadly I find it very useful to keep up with all of my younger relatives whose names I would have almost forgotten now that I'm getting older were it not for Facebook.

To me, Facebook is an excellent tool to keep in touch with all of those distant or young relatives located up north and a few actually in Sweden.

Never, ever had a Facebook account.

I have a FB account set up with a throw-away mail account that I don't use for anything else. My FB account is in a fake name and is set with strictest privacy...I get no notifications, have no FB "friends" or post any pictures to it.

I only joined FB so I could view restaurant menus, as most eateries rely on FB heavily these days. Especially with the virus, I check numerous FB restaurant sites to see their current menu offerings (many of our faves post weekly or daily menus, some have daily specials, too).

Also since the pandemic, I check Jalisco and Chapala government sites to see what's going on officially.

i don't know why FB is needed to keep in touch with relatives and friends. All mine have email addresses, and we're keeping in touch just fine.

For restaurant menus, I ask the restaurant to post their menus on websites like this one. They are usually glad to comply. I also rely on other posters to report their restaurant experiences. I've found that most reliable.

Facebook has its uses. Just like WalMart.

You have a unique group of relatives and friends if they are all still primarily communicating by email.

I have a LOT of family, 40´s and younger, they don´t even know what email is.
I might as well wait for the pony express to deliver, to get mail from the younger generation that way.
The teenage crowd has even moved on from Facebook to WhatsApp and Instagram, here in Mexico.

I just call my friends and relatives. I've never had any reason to see Facebook as necessary.

LOL. I do e-mail. Period. If I want to communicate via e-mail with my granddaughters, I send them a text and tell them they've got mail otherwise they'd never check it.
It's a compromise.
I do have a facebook account but I only use it to check out information not for personal communication.

I have found long-lost friends (like my Best Man) and college buddies, friends and family of ex-girlfriends, musicians from the 60s (Girl George and the Ken Kesey bunch, all kinds of Nashville cats), and acquaintances from old jobs. Not to mention Mexican friends that have gone north, local workers that were more than just workers to me, and so on.

And it is still the main method that my 30-something kids use for communication when not video chatting. In Canada nobody uses WhatsApp. AND I am useless on a keyboard on a phone, but I can use my computer keyboard on Facebook.

What in CG’s post said his use of Facebook was all about convenience? I did not get that from what he said and am wondering what I missed.

You obviously haven't been to Canada lately. My 20 something and 30 something kids all use whatsapp in Vancouver.

Nobody in Ontario or Quebec or any of their friends in other provinces were using it last summer. They still don't.

A lot of this happened before we knew FaceBook was such a monster. By then it was too late. But have no illusions: FaceBook is FAR from being the only offender. Almost every place online that got any info from you is just as bad at repackaging your information.

Yep including the email providers with Yahoo being one of the worst. I could care less about what FaceBook knows about me I have nothing to hide.

I thought that Vancouver had also changed its name to Hongcouver, and their airport is found in Richman, at least that is what the folks from China tell me :)

I use Whatsapp on my cell mostly for communicating via text with Mexicans here since they all have it.
However, I was told by my stepson, about a year ago, that it was how he communicated VIA THE PHONE ASPECT with his daughter when she was in Thailand.
I have used it a number of times, with him, for that purpose. I just finished a call with him and the sound was better than dialing direct with either Telcel or Telmex the old fashioned way.
Check it out. I think you'll be surprised at the call quality.

And the video quality as well. I like Whatsapp too, excellent app. And I have a lot of fun on Facebook with my old friends far and wide, I've learned a lot too. Facebook became a monster incrementally and gradually, too late now. In the 10 or whatever years I've been a member I've never had anything happen like being hacked, or identity theft or whatever they say is supposed to happen.
