Driving from Canada to Lakeside

Please only respond if you have done the drive in the last 30 days.

There are a couple of Facebook groups saying that no one from Canada can enter the USA when driving to Mexico. Essential travel only and they are not classifying owning a house in Mexico as essential. Then there are a few responses saying they were able too.
Has anyone here done this drive very recently and had problems or not ?

We had an issue crossing the border into the US and after a phone call to the US Consulate about our problem, they gave me the phone number of Border Patrol for the US town we plan to cross. A second phone call solved the problem in my case.

I have called the 2 border crossings by Vancouver a total of 7 times and got 4 yes you and 3 no you can't.

That sounds a lot like Mexico. CBP must be reading their script these days.....

There are a couple of people who rent cars, in Ajijic, that are "inexpensive". At the end of the day car rental may be about as cheap as driving down/back to Canada.

I have Mark Turford's list of cars and prices. I am weighing my options. Flight is $600 can at best a car is $770 can a month based on $13,000 pesos.

Fly. Wear a hazmat suit if you want to but your exposure will be more limited if you take precautions.
The cost of a car rental is peanuts compared to the valuation you should be putting on your life.

FYI ferret. My profession is an infection control officer in the health industry here where I live on Vancouver Island. I know all to well about the risks of travelling in this pandemic. My wife works with the Covid19 patients at our hospital here. She is also very aware of what to do to stay safe. We know how to limit contact and bring our own hazmat suits.
Unfortunately most people it seems in the USA and Mexico don't listen to the health authorities and think "it can't happen to me ". Mind you it doesn't help when you have a president saying “It’s going away. It’ll go away. Things go away "

“So being homeless after selling our home on Vancouver Island just prior to the pandemic, we were told by US Customs to present our case at the border for consideration of essential travel. So after hundreds of dollars in ferry costs, we made that trip to the border today, and were told we are not essential travelers. The staff at the border were supportive, but the supervisor denied us. Our house sitter in Baja is returning to the US, and the temporary accomodation on the Island we had is now sold. We have residency status in Mexico. We have a dog so flying him down is not an option until the airline heat embargo ends in November. So what did they say at the border when I asked them what we should do now? One of you can fly down to attend to your mexican home and the other can stay in Canada with your dog...
