DW Documentary. Like Share Comment Sleep disorders are one of the most common reasons for visiting a doctor in Europe. Instead of sleeping pills, alternative methods are increasingly gaining attention. This sleep documentary looks at new therapeutic approaches such as sophrology and light therapy. We spend around a third of our lives asleep.

This is the original study (2013) showing what happens during sleep... https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2013/10/18/236211811/brains-sweep-themselves-clean-of-toxins-during-sleep#:~:text=While%20the%20brain%20sleeps%2C%20it,a%20study%20of%20mice%20found.
This has been found only to occur during deep sleep aka non REM sleep.

I had to search for a while to find this. I believe you will find it of interest. Personally, if I eat anything with MSG in it, I will wake up exhausted because I will have the most vivid dreams ever. Everybody's different but avoiding msg and dyes like annatto (which makes cheese orange) makes a difference to me.

I found this article interesting, regarding a device shown on the documentary...

We tried the Dodow sleep aid for over 2 months — here’s why it’s worth it

Not sure why anyone would pay $60 for a device that just gets you to breathe slowly and rhythmically, which one can do all by themselves.

They pay it because it works for them, however if you can control your breathing as required then this would be useless. A friend of mine, who happens to be an expert in meditation agrees with you.
