You can register a landline with Whatsapp but it takes more effort. https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-use-whatsapp-with-landline-number/

That said, WhatsApp only works when BOTH parties have WhatsApp.  

Put the number into your contacts, then go to WhatsApp and see if it is registered with them.

When I put a number into my contacts, it automatically shows whatsapp on their contact page if they have a whatsapp account. I don't have to go to the whatsapp appto check
There seems to be a lag sometimes, though, before it shows up.

Landlines will not work on WhatsApp. It has to be a cell #. I posted on TOB the cell of Maskaras Farmacia next door for WhatsApp or call but don’t have the cell for the farmacia Express.

Did you know that you can also put Whatsapp on your laptop? You do have to have it on your cell phone first but I like using the laptop keyboard if I'm sending a long message and, also, I like using the phone feature so I can converse without having the phone stuck to my ear. Have a much greater control over the volume as well if that's a concern for some people.

Me2. I have whatsapp on my desktop and so much easier on my eyes after multiple retina surgeries.  But I have not figured out how to clear or delete chats on the desktop.  I'll look at that next week.

Click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner. The drop down menu gives you several choices for clearing chats - select, clear, delete....

PS:  I just checked again and on my desktop Win 11 Edge browser I do not have three dots.  So I go to my phone to clear or delete.

PS2:  Figured it out finally.  On desktop, right click on the chat name in your current chats on the left side of the whatsapp window, a pop up window appears and you can clear chat or delete chat from there.  Whew.
