Loads of Bricks and other Masonry

Anyone know what's going on to the immediate east of the Ajijic Pier?   Is it the staging area for the work on Colón?  (I was out of town for a few weeks.)

The poor merchants on Colón!  With the rains, the dugout street and missing sidewalks (just mud now) made for a treacherous walk this morning from the Plaza to Lilifher's Deli, only a few doors down.  

I was going to try to hit Savta's too, but frankly it was too slippery to risk it.  And I'm a hearty walker usually.  

Hoping they at least get the sidewalks in soon.

Yes, it is the materials for the roadwork. They need to replace the sewer lines and roads in the whole village so perhaps everyone will feel the pain at some point. I am all for it. Long overdue. The unfortunate part for the Colon merchants is they will be taking away all the parking (not that there was ever a spot available anyhow).

Better planning could have scheduled Colón for after the high season.

Certainly a better sewer system is needed, but also there should be a new building moratorium until all of the infrastructure is improved. That includes SIMAPA which sprinks leaks constantly. CFE too, but mostly they seem a bit more solid these days.

Many of the cars parked on Colón seem to be real estate agents who work at the various offices there. Most open at 9, before the retail shops open.

With the new Real Estate licensing requirements, we may see a few less of them......last I heard "speaking Spanish" was part of the requirements to be licensed.

Bob do you really think that will trickle down to Lakeside any time soon?

They are having training classes at Lake Chapala Realty, so I guess it has.

Sidewalks completed on Colón!! Progress!

Colón has always had sidewalks.. What did they do to them?

Colón was always a street, too  

Complete overhaul of street and sidewalks, sewer, water pipes from Hidalgo to lake.  The lowest block was done last year.

After weeks of mud and muck, there are now new sidewalks on both sides of street.  The street itself is still under construction.  

I didn't take a picture today, but here's what it looked like a few weeks ago.  Notice the old cracked sidewalks (they are now freshly poured).  

It is going to look wonderful. Let's hope they carry on throughout the village.

I'm not sure how I feel about giving up the cobbles village-wide for flatter and faster surfaces.

I'm an aging pedestrian and even with the cobbles there are are plenty of a$$holes (often expats) who speed and make crossing streets challenging.

I'll keep an open mind and see how things go on Colón as far as speeding.

The Mexicans are the kings of topes.........problem quite easily solved. Most streets can't even be called "cobbled" as they are mainly sand and gravel now. 16 de Septiembre is one example where, in and around, the LCS it is sand and gravel. They were actually removing the stones and filling the holes with sand. A complete joke. Every single other Pueblo Magico I have been to (around 10) have wonderful streets of pavers and flagstone. The dust is primarily caused from these horrible streets.....

Has anyone heard which road(s) they are doing next? There are still enough materials piled up by the pier to do another 3 or 4 blocks, maybe more.

We were told to get our cars out of garage start April 2nd, So maybe Marcos Castellanos is next, down By LCS streets are a mess...

Interesting. Yes, 16 de Septiembre & Ramon Corona, around the LCS, is a dirt/gravel mess. I would like to see them do Cinco de Mayo, Ramon Corona, Nicolas Bravo, Constitucion and 16 de Septiembre the same as they did Colon. These are the main N/S and E/W streets within Centro Ajijic. They can put in topes every 50 meters if they are concerned about speed. The dust would be reduced by 80%.
