What has Improved Since you Moved Here?

This is kind of taken from another forum. What year did you move here?

What has improved since you moved here?

Five years ago.

1. Water service much more reliable.
2. Internet slightly better.
3. Telecable much improved.
4. Availability of WalMart simplifies buying staples.
5. The Jocotepec bypass even though still not finished.
6. Thanks to a group of volunteers of which I am but one, graffiti is mostly gone locally.
7. Chapala & Jocotepec Malecon, both real standouts now.
8. Ajijic Malecon.
9. Condition of much of the carretera, particularly west of Ajijic.
10. Roads between here and the border.
11. New Costco in GDL.
12. LCS under Howard Feldstein.
13. Public art around Ajijic.
14. Local medical services.

Other stuff will come to me later.

That's okay...it's always good to count your blessings instead of looking at the downside.
Other things: Lots of restaurant choices, from steak houses to Thai food, and almost everything in between. I'm still waiting for good Chinese, but that, too, will be coming.......manana.

Are you still waiting for the rest of your electricity too?

You'll notice I didn't include CFE (Can't Furnish Electricity) on the list.

Maybe you could elaborate on what was better back then, in your personal opinion?

No traffic, 1 stop lite, in Chapala, most if not all restaurants we're busy. Still had tables in front of restaurants on the sidewalk. Like most of Mexico.
Very few gated community's. Housing prices were not yet influenced by buyers saying to realtors WOW that's really cheap.
Maybe, It's one of those (You had to be there) to understand.

Been here three years. My pool game and my Spanish have improved considerably. Baby hairs are growing in the bald spot on the top of my head. Walking over cobblestones has been good therapy for my shattered ankle. Not only do I walk with without my cane, but I can run for the first time in 16 years. And I'm horny all the time...just like when I was kid. Woohoo!

I hope that we can all say that one of the biggest changes here is, that because we know more Spanish, we can better understand what's happening in our community. And therefore better enjoy it.

I understand even John is trying to learn Spanish before he goes north.

For us, the most noticeable thing during our visits starting in 1997 has been the reduction in the garbage and dead animals along the highways and the reduction of street trash in the cities, towns and villages! While I do not remember the year, I once made a post commenting about how cities or towns away from the greater Guadalajara area seemed to have more civic pride with cleaner streets and highways and pondering the reason why.

I notice there is a heck of a lot less graffiti in both Chapala and Ajijic since a few years ago. A very dramatic difference. Thanks MC and crew........!!!!!!!

I've live here 14 years and just about everything has improved except the topes which have gotten worse.

We've been here 11 years and I agree. Way too many stupid topes and traffic lights.

On another subject, I just received my MULTIVA statement, no charge for ATM withdrawals.

What has improved since I moved here ???????

Gee, in seventeen years, the only thing that's improved has been my health...
and the telephone, the internet, the choice of food products, the choice of grocery stores, the advent of Home Depot, Sams and Costco, the choice of restaurants, BANK MACHINES, my Spanish, AND THE MEXICAN ECONOMY. I'll even grant CFE a miniscule improvement.
The hills around San Miguel were denuded of trees when we moved there in May of '96...very few people in the smaller communities could afford propane to cook with.
Driving around Guadalajara the other day, I could easily have mistaken the city for Toronto...lots of trees, lots of traffic and affluence everywhere.
Sure hope the PRI doesn't screw it up.

its been a while, but I remember several others make claim to better health after moving to Lakeside....
mostly attributed to the air and the food...

We know, we just have the tendency to forget and I believe that’s some would just call this aging. Nice reminder, Thank You.
