I live in Ixtlahuacan and it is a great little town. It's gotten sort of a raw deal lately due to the tragic dumping of bodies, etc. At over 184 square kms, Ixt is one of the largest counties in Jalisco. It stretches to north to El Salto, east to Poncitlan, and northwest clear to Tlajomulco de Zuñiga, just south of GDL. Most of the unfortunate incidents were in the very large COUNTY of Ixtlahuacan, not in or near the town itselt. The newspapers almost always say these incidents occurred "in the town" of Ixtlahuacan. So many friends say, "Oh dear, aren't you afraid to live in such a dangerous place?" From my perspective, the level of crime here is pretty much the same as (some would say even less than) other areas around Lakeside. Yes, there have been a few things happen, but nowhere near how the press paints it. Sort of sad for our town.
