Sounds about right and then they probably complained that they were being "hassled" by the transitos..........jajajaja.

Actually, the seat belt question is easliy resolved in France. There, if you are not wearing your seat belt, your insurance policy is not valid and you are not covered, period. End of story. Everyone wears their seat belts there at all times. No mordida, though.

Why is the simplest answer to resolve an issue normally the best solution? This is certainly a “win/win”.

I should add that, in France, you simply do not drive without insurance - period. Not an option.

Also, if you are apprehended driving under the influence of alcohol (and the standard is pretty low) , you are fined thousands of Euros, you go to the pokey for a while, your license is suspended and, in order to get it back years later, you must attend and graduate from a strict and demanding driver´s re-licensing school. The French have no sense of humor except, of course, for my wife who married me 41 years ago. Now, that was funny but she´s not laughing.

The Govt. insurance company in BC will not cover any injuries if you are found to be not be wearing your seatbelt.

Over on TOB, there is a classic about a NOB driver pulled over for running a red light. Where it gets really interesting is the fact that this person drove a car all the way from the border without having obtained a TIP (temporary import permit). When I read that, I immediately wondered if they left their home in Hooterville for a Sunday afternoon drive and ended up at Lake Chapala?

That last sentence is the funniest thing that's been on this board for days.
It does make you wonder about all the complaints about being "singled out and picked on" by expats.
