Surround Sound System for 3D HD TV

Has anyone purchased one or can recommend a system?

Why would the sound be any different on a 2D TV versus a 3D TV?

Those all in one speaker bar systems are nice as they fit under the TV and
no wires going around. If you want thump add a subwoofer or you can go
the whole route with the seperate home theatre receiver and all the wires
and speakers all over the place. I just use a high quality two channel system
for everything but that is me. Two channel is more important than the home
theater stuff to me.

I'm using a Vizio soundbar, with it's wireless subwoofer. It offers a "surround" mode which is pretty effective in movies. For normal viewing, it provides an unusually wide soundstage which is good enough for me these days. I used to be a total sound freak, so I have mellowed, but these things are great.

Vizio is the least expensive of the lot when looking at "quality"; however, it is not a stereophile's dream. I would say $400-$500 would get you much better. I bought mine at CostCo here; they no longer have them, and are currently selling a $1500 pesos Panasonic which I did not care for.

Buy a good quality Home Theater Receiver (Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony - first two are best), they're not cheap. And connect a 5.1 or 7.1 system to it, ie 5 speakers or 7 speakers. I have a 7.1 system here now with 7 matching speakers. You MUST match front and center speakers to rear surrounds by manufacturer. You'll need a subwoofer too.

I would never use the sound system contained in the TV. They all suck.

You have to be a little more specific. Do you want a 5.1 or 7.1 system? 5.1 would be an AV Receiver matched with 2 front speakers, a center speaker, a subwoofer and 2 rear speakers. The 7.1 adds two side speakers.

What's your price range and what kind of quality are you looking for? A decent 5.1 system will run you more than a grand. Add about 30% - 40% if you're buying in Mexico.

Or you can do what Zed recommends. Buy a high quality AV Receiver and two excellent front speakers (especially if you are going to be listening to music through the system). It's really all you need. Then later, if you want, you can add the other speakers as you go along.

I'm not recommending Def Tech, because I've never heard their products. But they are rated pretty well for the price point.

Yes, they have a few different inputs, have them attached to my DVD player and work great and 5 speakers! Also extra inputs for I-pod or cell phone. I am going to buy 2 more.
