Is it Illegal To Cross the Border with your passport but no Visa?

I accidentally let my passport expire and proceeded to go the Guadalajara to replace it. It worked wonderfully and received it in exactly 1 week via currier. Great service. But I had noticed that there is no Visa sticker in it like my original one did. Am I going to have an issue at the border with this? I'm going back into the States to visit family but don't want any hassle at the border. Thanks!

Yes, I have an residente temporal card. My old (expired) passport from last year had a visa sticker in it. We're from the States, just want to go back for a while.

No problem as old visa sticker was good for one entry and changing to another document which you did and now the old sticker is longer necessary

In Laredo my daughter got detained coming in on a bus, she had a tourist visa, passport stolen and in Guad they processed her new passport, her visa disappeared. She was detained for hours. So it can happen, just depends on who is at the border.
