Queen of the Lake - Chapala Sunday

Tomorrow would be a bad day if you are trying to get through Chapala. There will be 5-10,000 people in the streets watching the religious procession, which involves a statue from Zapopan. Wish I knew more about it.

There is also the Festival of Mud in east Chapala.

This has happened a few times before. When the lake gets dry and very low, they bring The Virgen of Zapopan to Chapala and the lake, where the people pay respects and pray that it rains and the lake levels might rise. The Virgen of Zapopan resides at the Cathedral in Zapopan. In addition, during the fall "she" visits each of the churches in Guadalajara, and she returns home during huge procession from the Guadalajara Cathedral to Zapopan.

Very emotional and beautiful event, go to Chapala and watch, we need it to rain, and improve lake levels.

We need them to open the dam on the Lerma River in GTO. That is the only way to raise the lake any significant amount. Rain in this area alone won't even come close.

The rains did it several years ago..it all depends on how much rain , plus once the reservoirs are full the dams have to open all along the river . The dams will not get open if they are not full.

well, we certainly are not getting enough rain so far this rainy season to make any impact.

last time the heavy rains came in September so there is still time but it does look like the visit of the Virgin and maybe the Huichol´s is in order this year.

Who are the guys dressed in medieval costumes with pike poles and white plumes on their helmets. What's all that about? Are these Pedro's 'motorbike club' called "Los Occultos"  

Regarding the Virgin of Zapopan, she now comes every year, ever since she added "Queen of the Lake" to her titles a handful of years back. I think I read the official colors this year are yellow and green....referring to the Pope's upcoming visit to Brazil. Or something like that.

In past years, she's also made a swing through Ajijic, rolling through town down Constitucion/Ocampo in the bullet-proof VirginMobile.

Does anybody know what time she's making the trip through Chapala today? Need to run over there but don't want to run into the procession.

Too late, they have had the main drag closed since 8 AM.....shut down from 7-11 to the waterfront. Street deco crew. I think the parade starts around 11 AM.

i think zed should come and meet my friends the nativos locos mc and call them indios. there will be big bunch of motos here after they have finished escorting the virgen into town. at the corner below the church. 2 years ago there were enough to fill the sidewalk fer 2 blocks
