Hey (as Uncle Sy puts it)! My wife and I did the Focus seminar in May 2011, and loved it. Why the negative feedback?

They are far from being the best resource locally. Great fun time touring and meeting their experts. Not so great when you move here and realize a lot of their presentations and promotions are bunk.

OK. I understand a bit of youse-guys' responses (I walked out of their liquor store presentation!)--thank you for them. Although they had local physicians, lawyers, investment reps, immigration experts, etc. make presentations, my wife and I figured that their info would be dated by the time we came down for any length of stay. We ate in a variety of representative restaurants, toured Guadalajara, etc. Very little emphasis on real estate, and met a lot of interesting folk.

It seems to me the folks that did the Focus most generally had a positive experience and speak highly of it.
On the other hand, those that live here and did their own research have a negative attitude based on the perceived lack of value in doing Focus.
(can basically get the same info, without spending x thousand dollars)
There's also a belief that their Focus (intended pun) is heavy on Real Estate.
To each his own

Yes. That's why we didn't jump at moving right away--wanted to do more individual research. We're coming down at the end of July, for three months, to see what has changed since 2011. What's the "word" on the street, now? You folks still happy?

What makes a person happy is an extremely subjective thing. Coming down and checking things out for yourself is the best decision. We have been here fulltime a few years and love it. We originally came for 4 to 6 weeks every year for 5 years before we moved down fulltime. We rented in a different place every time. Chapala, Ajijic, SJC, gated communities, in the village, etc. We decided living right in Ajijic village was right for us. Nothing much has changed since 2011 other than the real-estate prices are lower and there are more Canadians and less Americans.

South wall of the mercado publico, on the exterior, in the pedestrian walkway with tables out front, under the trees. Excellent food & open only until 5 or 6?, so plan a late lunch or early dinner.

Jaja........I just noticed this thread was a voting thing. It is nice to be number two (below Focus on Mexico) however some of the competition I have never even heard of.
