Futbol on Sunday

I noticed on the Union Ajijic Facebook page that there are 2 games on Sunday.
They are at 2 and 4 pm, probably at the lower field.
Can you confirm, Phil?

Folks, the disruption caused by the age issue has been a bit of a setback for our guys and they're off to a rough start. Let's show up on Sunday wearing our shirts and let them know we're behind them!

I have a concert to go to but will try to make 4pm game.

I can confirm that there are two games on Sunday. The young lads at 2pm and the medium lads at 4pm. We now have three teams as many of the big kids became ineligible to play for the older team. The league we are in is called Jalisco Plus and there are (at least) five divisions. The divisions are arranged by age group. So the younger group are in the 5th division, the 4th division is the next age group - this was the group that went all the way last season. But as we have 10 kids who played last year in the 4th division who are now too old, we have formed a team for the 3rd division. They played a very strong under 17 team from Leones Negros on Tuesday in a friendly and lost 2-1. This team has yet to play their first game in the 3rd division. The games on Sunday are for the 5th and 4th divisions at 2pm and 4pm respectively. A younger player can play "up" to higher divisions but obviously an older player cannot play "down". So players like Chuki who qualifies for the 5th, will play in both 4th and 5th. The quality of play in the 5th division is excellent. The 5th division team wears the InsideLakeside orange and the 4th division wear the Blue/Yellow Union strip.
Sorry for the late confirmation of the times. I had originally told Jim in the other thread that we had Sunday games a couple of weeks ago, but I usually like to confirm midweek before the weekend games. I told the team we had a VIP attending (Jim) and someone sent me a message about this which implied the games might be Saturday. They tried to send me a message in English, but all it did was cause confusion. I have just got off the phone with Rafa (president of Patronato) and he conformed the games are at 2pm and 4pm on Sunday and we have a special event for the IL supporters of Union. So be there!! It will be a great afternoon.

I will be there from about 1:45pm. If anyone wants to bring a ball to the game, they are always welcome. We have started using the guy who runs a bike shop in Ajijic to buy the balls. Yes, it is a little more expensive than going into Guadalajara, but this guy looks like he could do with the money and it keeps the money in the local economy. He is located 1 block north of the Carretera on Felipe Angeles. Go north on Colon 1st right after the carretera - he has a little bike shop and sells footballs. He will inflate them too. Get the Azteca brand Size 5. He is used to gringos buying balls there and is very helpful.

So, in case you are still confused.
The "Inside Lakeside" team is now the younger team, and will be playing at 2:00.
Let's get out and cheer them on.

I want to Thank Truebrit and Zenwoodle for making this a successful program. The boys are great competitors. The 1st year there was maybe a dozen spectators.....today well over a hundred.

That's because the beer is cheaper now.

Not surprisingly, JimW is leaving out the good part. Yep, the younger team won by two points in the shootout after tying the game.  Yep, the older kids romped, winning 5 to one and showing MUCH BETTER passing and ball control.

But the real news is the nice certificate of award given to Jim for the great support he and his wife have given the program.  The good news is how well Jim looks and his great attitude as he continues to battle cancer.  It is really a privilege and an inspiration to be around him if even for the brief time of a little Sunday soccer.  Jim is walking talking Right Mental Attitude.

Jim is on his way back north on Tuesday to continue the good fight.  God Speed Jim and what a pleasure it was to see you and share the games with you.

The beer is a deal and thanks to Canuck Bob, I got a second one today.  We had a good "old gringos" cheering section going. Zen, yer missing all the fun, get your butt back down here!

Thank You Mainecoons, It was great seeing you guys again, and For the brew. BTW our team was down 3-1 end of 1st half. Held Atlas scoreless in the 2nd half and beat them in the shoot out after game ending 3-3......Now that is exciting seeing the boys demonstrate true GRIT!
