NAFTA 2017 - regulation changes not requiring nationalization? Empty NAFTA 2017 - regulation changes not requiring nationalization?

Post by Sherman Thu Oct 09, 2014 9:51 pm

At a dinner table conversation this evening, someone said they 'heard' (ok, I know, I know .... ) that in 2017 a NAFTA Regulation or Rule goes into place where we will no longer be required to nationalize our NAFTA 'zone' foreign-plated (US or Canada) cars for here?

The person did not know how this was or was not tied to us being temporal or permanent visa holders.

Has anyone heard anything about this, or anything related??

Thanks .....

I recall the rule being that there will be no age restriction.

I checked again with the person making the comment ... who thought that the issue was around the 'duties' that Mexico now imposes on NAFTA vehicles. So, it has everything to do with the money we are paying to nationalize vehicles currently.

Will that go away in 2017?
Thanks ..

There is currently no "duties" on NAFTA built vehicles that qualify however you do have to pay taxes and brokerage fees. That is the money that most people are paying (approx. $1500 - $3000).

ok .... so no 'current duties'. Got it.

Another question .... who did you use to nationalize your car? CanuckBob or anyone else?

Thanks,

I purchased Mexican vehicles when I arrived here. I'm sure someone else here will give you some advice on that.
