Laredo Texas
We will be crossing the border at Laredo Texas on November 1st. We plan on spending the night of Oct 31st in Laredo but do not know the area. Would someone either suggest places to stay (with a small dog) or at least steer us away from bad areas of town. Unfortunately, most cities have them!

Red Roof Inn is conveniently located and pet friendly for one small pet. See their pet policy at lower right area of the webpage.

La Quinta is also pet friendly. Good/popular mexican restaurant across the parking lot.

Re: Laredo Texas
Thank you for the responses. We booked a room. I did forget to ask about hotels once we get in Mexico. It looks like it's a 12 hour drive and neither one of us can stand to be in a car that long. We would like to stop about half way. Suggestions for where to stay????

Half way is the town of Matehuala. The Palmas will take dogs. If you stay on the north side of the motel, the units are cheaper. You will see it as you drive into the north side of town at the rumble strip, on your left. Big tall sign with a palm.

Thank you for the information Gamina. It appears that all the hotels in Matehuala are booked. I guess we waited too late to reserve a room. Have you ever had to stay in any other town on the way down? I guess we may have to make the entire drive!

Have you tried Hotel Del Parque? It is in downtown Matahuala and we have used it on out last 2 trips. You need to call them to make the reservation, they don't respond well to emails. They have free underground parking. Don't know what their pet policy is.
Many streets in town are one-way so you may have to drive around to get to it.

It is unlikely that Las Palmas is booked except that Nov. 1-2 is Day of the Dead in Mexico. Try this link: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g499417-d153678-Reviews-Las_Palmas_Midway_Inn-Matehuala_Central_Mexico_and_Gulf_Coast.html

Re: Laredo Texas
Oops, I checked booking.com and they showed that Las Palmas is indeed booked. You are traveling at a really bad time for Mexico as one of the biggest holidays is Day of the Dead Nov. 1-2. There is a "hot sheet" motel (that takes dogs) at the north end of town, at the Real de Catorce turnoff. It's painted orange or bright yellow I think, and will be on your right. It seems that traveling with animals and your dates complicates your motel situation.

Re: Laredo Texas
If it is at all possible, I would recommend moving your travel dates by two days in one direction or the other. :/
