Re: Sticker prices on auto's
I was lucky too. I bought the first SmartCar here in 2006. I told the sales manager that I thought he could sell many at Lakeside if someone promoted it. I said, "give me brochures and a stack of your cards and I'll do it if you give me a very good deal." He did. The second was a model year old Toyota Rav4 that was only 6 months old. It had been a company car for Dalton and had less than 12,000Km on it. They'd put it on the lot the day we visited. It was perfect, just what we wanted and I again talked to the sales manager and simply said, "If you give me a really good price I'll buy it right now." He did. I found both dealers, Eurostern (Mercedes) and Dalton Toyota to be very professional, courteous, and customer service oriented. The only dealer in the USA I ever dealt with that was similar was my Mercedes dealer in Portland, OR.

By the way, every dealer we've ever visited in Guadalajara has had some english spseaking staff. You don't need to fear buying a car from a dealer here. Everything is very straight forward and on the table. And, they take care of everything, tax, license, and insurance if you need it too.

Wow, this is ALL great news! I like the idea of them doing the plates , smog
and maybe adding a trailor hitch and floor mats. You are all a great source
of info, which is going to save us time and pesos! Keep any suggestions

Re: Sticker prices on auto's
David, do the dealers here offer any good financing or lease deals like NOB?
Re: Sticker prices on auto's
Yes and no...if you have a Mexican issued Banamex card...some offer a low % rate and some offer no % for a short period. I used an 6% USA issued Barclay Card...which lets me pay it off as I please...some of my cards...like Cap I sometimes offer 15 month loans, up to my limit, at no % for that period.

Re: Sticker prices on auto's
Yeah I just looked at Chryslars mx site and it looks like 4.3% financing with some 0% at the beginning. That's not too bad although I would prefer 0% for the whole term like you can find NOB.
Re: Sticker prices on auto's
If you did manage to find financing, the interest rate would put you in shock.

Re: Sticker prices on auto's
OP, have you ever driven a large pick-up through the local Villages? A friend has a "mid-sized" pick-up and I have noticed it is very hard to find parking, often hard to negotiate corners without backing up, a real pain to drive on narrow 2 way streets and some streets are simply not negotiable at all. Maybe not the most practical car for Lakeside?

I would not agree that the March is best. Everyone has different needs. Look at what are most popular here: Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Honda Fit, Nissan Note seem to be the winners. Some folks want to stay close to home, others want to take guests to San Miguel or PV. I can't imagine taking 4 people anywhere in a March, let alone picking two guests and their luggage up at GDL. Maybe you just make two trips?

Re: Sticker prices on auto's
I agree about the practicality of a truck here . We now have a Chevy
Silverado ( with topper) and literally have the fear of God , placed
firmly in my heart, when I get behind the wheel. That is rarely, since
hubby, rightfully so, prefers to do the driving. We live in Aqua Esoncida,
where the cobblestones are a bit, well, uhhh, uneven. I drive a Mustang
Cobra, in the states, so a truck is a huge change. However, with our
goats( needing alfalfa and my group of oppossums, I will be happy to
have just a smallet truck , with NO CAMPER. If it were left up to me,
which it is not, I would buy a small Suv. But, in the case , will defer to
hubby, and will keep him happy, since I am kidnapping his current "baby"
and taking it north to Colorado.

When we had two cars NOB, it was easy for one of them to be a compact commuter, since the other was large enough to carry people and stuff when we needed to.
Now that we have only one, that one needs to be more versatile. Really small cars can't be counted on to carry your stuff or your visitors when you need to. Personally, I think even the Fit is marginal in that regard. What is important IMO is to consider the width of the vehicle and the ease of parking it.
Lakeside isn't the only place in Mexico with narrow, rough streets and super tight parking. Both are way more often the norm than the exception and one will benefit from taking those realities into account, along with the ability to carry multiple people and stuff from shopping trips in GDL.
