You'll find plenty of like minded folks when you arrive. Beer

And that is why I'm so glad that I made the choice to move from Halifax down to Ajijic last October! I missed all that hateful snow and ice......YAY!

Hubby and I are both Acadians and I know of another couple living here :)
All 4 of us are from New Brunswick and living here full time.
There are probably more.

When will you arrive Mapleleaf?

My plans aen't definite yet, but I'm thinking around October 20th and I'll be staying for 6 months (mid April). What part of New Brunswick are you from? I'm from what's known locally as Par en Bas; which is the Tusket area of Yarmouth County in southwestern Nova Scotia. Pubnico is probably one of the better known Acadian villages in the area, though I'm from a tiny place called Pointe du Sault (Sluice Point on most maps).

I'm from Dieppe and my hubby was born in Chatham. We've been here 19 months.
Our friends I believe are from northern New Brunswick but lived in different areas.
I have a friend who lives in the Yarmouth area.

Small world! Maybe I'll look you up when I arrive.

I was only half joking about inviting people over for rappie pie. (Is that eaten by New Brunswick Acadians?). I don't think I' can go a whole 6 months without my favorite dish. I may buy myself a juicer when I get down there and try making it, though I've never made it from scratch before.

Don't worry; I won't take you up on the rappie pie. Do you mean potatoes and salted pork baked in the oven? yummm One of my favourites.
Warning: potatoes here aren't the best. At some small veg and fruit stores along the Carretera (main drag) in Ajijic, ask for "papas sucias", Spanish for dirty potatoes. It's the closest to russets you'll find. The regular white Mexican potatoes don't have the right consistency. I tried making potato pancakes (Acadian style) with Mexican potatoes, uhhhh nope.

Yes, that's the dish, though my family usually leaves out the salted pork. That's too bad about the quality of the local potatoes; I'll have to be careful if I do make an attempt.

the potatos are just fine here. we do home fries, pan fries with onion, mashed and european style potato pancakes which are like latkes and grated. have bought them at the chapala mercado, soriana and wallyworld. you get some duds sometimes just like NOB. did the fries last night with shrimp and bacon wrapped filet.i don't peel for the fries.
