I'd like to think that they might actually have some effect but I doubt it.

At nine am, I left Salvadors and went to Villa Nova. That is less than 2 miles.

Someone passed me as I topped the hill headed west and someone else blew by me at the rattler bars coming down the hill.

They put the MAX 40 signs in the road and so far, people use them like minimum signs.

I'm thinking if the army brought in one of those Jeeps with the 50 cal on it and shot a few speeders, that might get the point across.

40 km is a rediculous limit. If the limits were reasonable people might observe them. Maybe not, everyone turns left onto Colon and over yellow lines. It's often said that traffic signs are "just a suggestion" in Mexico. I think the crosswalks are a good idea especially if pedestrians use them.

yes and even better if ferners understand once and for all that pedestrians do not have the right of way in this country crosswalk or not.

That would be a good start. Then, if they would cross at intersections instead of the middle of the block that would be step 2!

Reminds me of a co-worker who came in from pedestrian friendly Vancouver.

I took him to Montreal and he just blithely stepped off the sidewalk expecting traffic to stop....he wasn't seriously injured fortunately.

My taxi driver mentioned those crosswalks to me. Said it was the local PAN candidate who was painting them as an election promo. He seemed quite irate about them as the worng colour yellow was used. Anyone know the truth of that? Is this a political stunt?

I like the crosswalks they paint in London, a city with many tourists. They have big letters and arrows advising you to look RIGHT before venturing out. Sheesh, they could save all that bother if they'd only learn to drive on the right side of the road...... New Painted crosswalks 87465

The cross walks look great. I hope they're somewhat sealed so the rains don't take them away in a few months. They're beautiful, and at least a visual reminder that you're approaching centro and entering a pedestrian zone. It was a fine idea whoever is responsible.

But let's not let a well-executed, good idea keep us from shitting on it, right?

I'm the OP and I said who did them. Let's give him a big "Gracias" and let it go at that.

I noticed today that the paint on the new crosswalks was already dirty and faded. Someone posted long ago that the paint on the highways is not the sort of paint that is used in the US; here they just use regular paint, so of course it is soon faded. It was just a political stunt IMHO.

Beto doesn't do political stunts. The paint indeed was not up to highway standards but the gesture was from someone who cares deeply about his community.

Yeah, I can see where passing on the local gossip can be a high fiber diet, and we all know what lots of fiber ends up as if we eat too much. So it was Beto was it?  Basketball
Besides, I actually agree that the stripes look nice and maybe might possibly if they last...even help, un día.  So l hope they keep it up after the elections. Whichever side wins.

I always look left as well, in case any of those many tourists (especially, those are from this hemisphere), have rented a vehicle over there.    lol!

Many a yank (Irish equivalent of gringo + or - in Ireland), can't figure the difference between the left side, the right side, the wrong side, the right side, when they are forced to react quickly.
