June 16th.
But hope springs eternal, even in the middle of the hot season.

The rainbirds of Cerro San Miguel have been pretty accurate in the past. Haven't heard a peep or a whistle out 'em yet this year. My 45-day countdown has yet to begin.

I've heard a few in upper/central Ajijic, but have been gone for a few days so don't know if activity has increased.

Re: Rainbirds ???
It means nothing, the rainy season starts the 2nd week of June no matter how many "rainbirds" you hear.

They have been singing merrily away in RdeO for nearly a week. Still at a nice to hear stage - Not yet the James Bay orchestra's rendition of the high tension power line hum.

The rainbirds have been going for a while in Riberas. Not every night, but most nights just after sundown, I hear them.

I've been hearing a few here in La Christina, for 3 days now. Heard one at Peacock Gardens about a week ago.

Late May for the first real rainy season rains. I'm not trying to be clairvoyant, I was just listening to a local weather report on the radio.

Rain this afternoon/evening in El Chante (Jocotepec). Couple of fairly heavy downpours. Our unofficial rain gauge shows almost an inch today (Tuesday, 12 May 2015). And temps dropped by 12-15 degrees. Sweet!

Isn't there going to be a lottery or is that on the other board? Here in lovely La Canacinta in west Ajijic, we have yet to hear a "rainbird" that produces the tell-tale ACK-ACK-ACk rattling sound at the beginning or end of its trill. But perhaps the rainbirds are confused, like me. Sure seems like the weather is changing.

A little thunder, a little lightning and just a sprinkle of rain. Mother Nature is just checking her equipment for the real thing in a few weeks.
Sure does feel good......

Re: Rainbirds ???
For me, anytime it rains in May, that the first of the rainy season, as more will be on the way before long.
I know the weather experts won't acknowledge the rainy season, whatever that means, until the ocean currents are just right, the winds coming from a certain direction, and all the planets and stars in a certain alignment. It reinforces their credentials as experts.
Me, if I walk outside and get wet in May....it's started, slowly at first and then full speed, hopefully.
Not very scientific or erudite, but it's worked for me for years.
