Prepare for the British invasion
Here is a recent article about our area in a British newspaper. Not very factual though.......

Re: Prepare for the British invasion
I'm actually surprised we aren't overrun with Brits considering the cost of living in the UK.

Re: Prepare for the British invasion
the people who read the telegraph would have no intention of coming here nor probably mexico. its readership are normally affluent, middle upper and with all the inherent problems here there are much better alternatives.. on a more basic level, the sun or daily mirror readers would never consider here, too much violence and basic levels of living standards and no decent draught beer or bars..spain would be their country of choice.

hopefully they will go to the beaches.. They are already all over continental Europe and hopefully they will continue going to Spain in mass.

I beg to differ....there is already quite a few Brits here (yes, many of them have transited through the US or Canada but not all). My wife watches that cheesy Brit soap called Coronation street and even they talk about vacationing in Mexico on the show. I think we are going to see more people from there. I have regular guests that come from New Zealand and they are planning on retiring here too.
Re: Prepare for the British invasion
i think the vote will be to stay in. mexico is just not appealing to many brits. this area certainly not. the parts of spain that the expats go to are mini uk enclaves.. bacon and eggs , steak and kidney pie and boddingtons ale..however i lived 11 years in a more typical spain and was great. i have permanent residency in spain so i think i could return without problems if we left eu.. plus the spanish wont want to lose the income from the expats so am sure there would be some agreement.

Re: Prepare for the British invasion
mexico is cancun to them. mexico is not ever thought of as a place to live, or retire to.
people back home think im crazy to live here, maybe they are right !
cant understand why anyone would want to live here rather than new zealand, it must be one of the best places in the world to live, all be it expensive these days.
dont know of any brits that came here direct, as you say many came via canada or america where lake chapala area is better known. In europe and uk no one has a clue where it is..and will stay that way.

Hickton, I think for most Americans, New Zealand is too far for trips back home to visit, and the COL too high. If they can afford NZ they can afford to remain in the U.S.

Nice fluff piece. Reads like one of those International Living "articles" way back when. And given the number of real estate shots in the video at the end, I wonder who paid whom for the article.

I would think this one is safe..well cooked..long term maybe not so safe..jeje.
I do not worry about safety..I eat what looks good to me bbut that one is way to rich and greasy for my taste..
