Hal Weiss
He had a stroke on Wednesday. He can answer yes or no but is very confused and his right side in impaired. He's so strong and so healthy,
I can't believe this has happened to him. If love is the answer... he'll be fine.

Hi Kippy,
My thoughts are with you and your hubby. Don't wear yourself out too much...it sounds like you've got a lot on your plate right now from your post on TOB.
Also sounds like he's in good hands. Think positively! Sending cyber hugs!

I'm so sorry. I guess all you can do is put one foot in front of the other & take it a little at a time. I'm hoping for the best for him.

I've got a lot on my plate but I'm going slowly... if I'm puffing, overheated, or my chest starts to hurt...I stop till everything feels OK. My little cow has an extremely rotten bull calf..but he can't take all of the milk so she has to be milked or her udder gets painfully tight.. anyway I could live on her milk and thick cream. Ferdinand da Bull was two weeks old yesterday... a whopping 23 inches tall and so light I could easily pack him around. I quit holding him on my lap when the passive aggressive little beast peed all over me. At two weeks old he's now too heavy to lift...all that good rich Jersey milk... and he's like a three year old on speed..... zoooOOOOM!!!! the triplet baby goats were born while I was tearing down the highway in the rain, chasing the ambulance, with the milking machine in the back. They're adorable. Chelly the Chihuahua got in with them and she's the same size..but heavier. They're only a couple of pounds. Amazing how much stress can be relieved by snuggling a baby goat.
The cover on the milking machine was loose and flapping so when I came out of the hospital I got up in the bed of the truck to see if I could secure it. Nothing to tie it down with ..but my hair is about halfway down my back and I had it up in a pony tail...so... took it down so I could use the stretchy thing to secure the cover..of course it snapped and got lost...so finally got the thing secured so it wouldn't fly off and kill someone on the highway. Halfway home I looked at my gas gauge...I was on fumes.. it was after midnight and I didn't have my cell phone. I put it in neutral and coasted down the last hill into the gas station on fumes. Of course the pump wouldn't take my card... I didn't have a brush with me and I have enough hair for three people and it was going everywhere. The clerk probably thought I was a member of some scary cult. I tried not to make eye contact.
I'm not getting up on any of the young horses..or maybe any horse while Hal's gone. I can't afford to get hurt...we'd be screwed. So the horses are going one by one to the Amish to get trained to ride and drive...then I can advertise them. I called my guy that helps with stalls in today to unload my truck for me. I can do it.. it's 30, 50 lb. sacks... 1500 pounds... BUT.. IF I step wrong and tweak my back....again....screwed. While Hal's gone I'm going to get ALL the projects done so when good weather hits...we'll be ready to list and get the hell out of Dodge and SOB. North Side or South Side all depends on Hal. He kind of wanted to work two more years but to Hell with that...life is too short.
Today he could squeeze my hand with the hand on the impaired side...Good sign. I know he's trying not to cry. It has to be awful for him...He's such a big strong man... but the biggest part of him is his brain...My macho nerd, the frustration of not being able to get his thoughts out has to be torture. But I've loved him for 35 years and that's never going to stop. I took fresh baked bread and honey butter to the nursing staff...figured a little bribery can't hurt.

Re: Hal Weiss
You're both going to get through this...and thank you for not taking unnecessary risks with your own well being.
Triplet goats eh? Born between Christmas and New Years...are you going to name them Balthazar, Gaspar, and Melchior? or Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh?
I've never held a baby goat but I'm putting it on my bucket list.
Happy New Year Kip! May it bring all that you wish and hope for.

Re: Hal Weiss
Gebus Kipps, you do more in a day than most do in a month. I need to take a nap after after reading most of your day in the life posts.
Having had a couple of heart attacks with chest pain before the event I'd like to suggest you see a cardiologist asap. Saying ..."my chest starts to hurt"... would get their attention. I hope some of our doctor/nurses on the board will give you their professional opinion.
Please say hey to Hal for us, we're thinking all the good thoughts.

I don't know what one of the girls and the boy's name are...but the littlest girl's name is Adeline. Don't ask me why. I was snuggling her and it's like she told me.

Re: Hal Weiss
I just arrived in Seattle yesterday for a few freezing weeks. It's about to snow, so yes Kip, tell Hal he has to get better real fast so that you all (including some of the animals?) can come back lakeside and rock n roll with me and all of your many friends, And I will have an excuse to delay my annual January trip north until later in the year.

Warm healing thoughts for Hal. They are doing pretty amazing things with aphasia victims these days so keep the faith.

He's in there! He asked me today... I had to really listen. "What do we have to do to fight this?" I told him time, and patience and lots of hard work. He's on his way back to me.

That is terrific! He should be able to come a long way from where he is now. Good news. Get him the best physical therapy and or occupational therapy you can find. Your answer was perfect.

Tomorrow we change hospitals to one with intensive physical therapy. He's going to be very tired...they'll work him three hours a day. I'm so glad he's so fit... it should help the process.

Re: Hal Weiss
That's excellent! They are jumping right on it.
Yes, it will be hell for him for awhile but the pay off will be huge and he may even get back to baseline. He'll probably want to give up more than once, but keep reminding him of the light at the end of the tunnel and any and all progress he makes as he moves along through PT. He'll get Speech Therapy too, right?
Put pictures of you, the animals, the ranch, and his life up in his room where he can see them all the time, bring his favorite music and play it for him, leave it on when you leave. Maybe bring the dogs if possible, keep showing him what he's working so hard to get back for he needs to see the goals. Yes, it's good that he's fit and probably has good muscle memory.
I've seen medical miracles with my own eyes, Kip, believe in them it can happen to Hal.
