If his wife was a nurse at the hospital as the newspaper article says, would that be so unusual for security?

Nothing. Plus it was 3 or 4 in the morning. STILL . . .if I'm ever hospitalized there, I will recall this. Hope wife has been reassigned . . .

I was recently informed about the existence of this board and how delightful to find names I recognize from TOB and a forum that seems to have less censorship by right wing leaning moderators.

In regard to this shooting and as was pointed out to me on TOB, it did not occur on the Jocotepec malecon. It happened on the EL CHANTE malecon. Just for accuracy sake.
