Charcoal Chimney

Anyone seen them for sale?

Soriana has them and lots of other grilling supplies.

I was there, I didn't see the chimneys but I will look again. Do you know how much they wanted for the grill rack??? Over 700 pesos! hahaha Umm, no! The saleswoman and I had a good laugh.

They have them with the seasonal supplies and another display between the meat and dairy coolers.

I think they have them at the grill store on the carretara next to the moving place across from Perry's Pizza.

If you do not find one, simply buy a single piece of steel stovepipe and have your ironworker fashion an insulated handle for it.  That was my solution in Izmir, Turkey back in 1960 and it worked perfectly. Just have several holes made around the bottom few inches of the pipe to admit air, wad up some newspaper and insert it at the bottom & top it up with charcoal. Light the paper and soon it will be sending fire and sparks skyward. In a matter of minutes, the charcoal will be ignited and you can gently lift the gadget upward, allowing the charcoal to form a cone in the grill. Once evenly ignited, spread it out and start cooking.

Yep, I've had several of these in CA but none of them made it into the car for the long and final drive. They work so well.

The Soriana grilling supplies are Weber and pricey. I'll check the BBQ store and put up a notice on BBBS on FB to see if anyone has one in their bodega they want to turn into a few pesos. If all that fails, I will do as RVG says and have Jose Luis make one for me.

They have them at Strom, very nice, but they are $35 USD.

One 24 inch section of metal stovepipe should cost less than $10 USD at a hardware store. A simple handle can be almost free if you or your iron worker make it.

I was thinking the same thing!!!

The ones I've had in the past were not anywhere near as big and fancy as the Weber ones I've seen here. Just a tube with a little divider in the bottom, lots of holes for air circulation, and a handle. You crumple 3 pieces of newspaper and stuff them in the bottom compartment, light 'em, and poof! Done. And they cost almost nada.
