Getting notified
Supposed simple question, but after a dizzying runaround trying to find the answer, I give up. Maybe one of you knows the answer.
Yahoo mail shows you a red symbol when there's new mail in your box. My google mail does not, nor can I find a way to have it work. Anyone know how?

There are many articles on this topic if you do a Google search.
Here is one I found.

I did a good amount of searches before inquiring here. Got lost every time. So, I just followed your link for Gmail in Firefox. Went to the gear "settings" Clicked the gear, clicked "settings select". The top of the page displayed a message box "loading". I waited, went to the kitchen, got some water, stopped at the bathroom, and came back. Nothing had happened.
I tried the routine again. Nothing. Any suggestions?
I only wanted the notifications signal since I've been waiting for an important gmail. Checking every 15 minutes got tedious, but maybe checking is the way it's going to be.

Tried it again: this time it did load and I followed the instructions, saved it and sent myself a message from my other email (yahoo), and although it went through, I saw no kind of notification on the screen when I returned to the home page. What would I see and where, if it had worked?
I wish I had taken computer classes instead of blundering into it.

The easiest way is to use Outlook on your PC and have it set up to receive gmail. That is what I use on both my laptop and phone to receive my hotmail.

I'm happy to report that everything is now working!
