Yes, looking out from the Ajijic malecon this morning there appears to be a vast floating island of it that is kilometers long.
Re: Lake level and Lirio
A pile-up of lirio usually follows a strong wind pattern that drives the lirio to the shore.

probably coming from the river that is fuller with the rain and also depends on the direction of the wind and the season..

Re: Lake level and Lirio
CONAGUA doesn't post lake levels on the weekend-hopefully they will have by noon. Then we can see how much it has risen with the rains. The lirio is probably here because dams on the Lerma have been opened.

Most definitely due to the opening of the dams. Too bad they still haven't found a way to capture it at the mouth of the river.
Re: Lake level and Lirio
Where is the lirio coming from?
The Rio Lerma from the mouth at the east end of the lake, through La Barca and to La Piedad, has a solid covering of lirio.
Proliferation at it's finest.

It just takes a few plants to prolifate like crazy, there is no frost to control it and kill it so it is a plague..

On the southshore we are seeing chunks of shoreline, some small and some so large they have full grown trees that appear to get bogged down in the shallows. The releasing of the up-river dams violently tear the sides of the river apart all the way down. We have not yet observed any floats of lirio. I am sure that will come soon.

Time for the annual Lirio festival! Grind up the Lirio, dry it in solar dryers on the beach, get the Army in with some substantial bales of cannabis seized from the Cartels. Light, and begin the dancing with historic dancers and Shaman, blessing the smoke covered lake. That's the way they did it 100 years ago - well, minus the cannabis and dancers.
