I also understand from the article that, as Albertrv said, none of those captured seem to be senior gang members. The report makes reference to two cells. The alleged leader of "Resistance" in Jocotepec is still at large. And "Resistance" isn't the only group around - the fact that they are killing rivals means that the rivals are here too. So for those who are breathing a sigh of relief and telling yourselves the bad guys have been arrested and things are going to calm down - I admire your optimistic spirit but I sure don't agree with your analysis!

The Resistencia is I read a gang that started in DF and works for whomever will pay them.
The paper said that their job is to keep other gangs out of the territory in Joco. The article did not say whose cartel they are working for , neither did they name the other gangs.
It is pretty clear in the article they are doing some of the crime according to contracts and some others for their own account.

There is a tendency to look at the victims as good guys and the killers as bad guys when we have no clue of what is going on.

The situation is not black and white , there is bad and good in everyone.

I bet you that among these criminals who got arrested you have innocent children of theirs who will be in difficult situation as well .
It is hard to feels sorry for murderers but they too have families that can be good or bad.

I agree with you traveller , the situation is not good. This group will continue to operate without the 4 or 5 they arrested and the rivals gangs will continue to fight for their share of the business.

i read many spanish language rags and i am merely suggesting that the kidnapping and killing of same is totally seperate from the other crap which in fact is narco against narco. when the family in question[kidnapping victims] was first in the news members of a couple of boards suggested the family was nefariosly[sic] involved in misdeeds. nothing could be farther from truth.
so i suggest to you,that kidnap victims have nothing to do with the resistance,zetas,la familia, templars which operate in this area and include kidnappings of people in families that can pay ransoms as one of the crimes they commit against totally innocent people. you have suggested that this family is not innocent which is a rumour that has been floating around since their other son escaped from the criminals by hiding in a closet in chapala. and yes some in the family know what is being said about them on these boards. nothing along these lines was mentioned in any of the newspapers i have read.

Once again, did the event occur inside or outside of the gated portion of Roca Azul? Let me be even more specific. On the road leading to the highway, or after you pass through the gated portion and check in with the guard.

Didn't they mention barbwire on top of the wall? I think that's one of the houses on the right hand side as you go down the road toward the gated part.

I think you are right, however will check into it further. The expression finca indicates a country property of some size.

That's what I liked about Roca Azul....when you get inside the gates, the lots are large and NO walls or barb wire.

Yes, we liked that too. The land however is alluvial and can be tricky to build on. The history of the place is quite fascinating.

New homes perhaps, however the one we renovated over there got a complete overhaul, including removing all floors digging down and replacing them, plus all plumbing and electrical. Nice when done, but chewed up most of the profit.

The one we live in was built in 1977. A lot of work but the views are incredible, and now, so is the house after 12 years of work.

If it's on a bog...won't there be problems again? Or is there some permanent remedy for the problem?

Well, it's not exactly a bog, however when the homes were built back in the 60's they only put foundations under the walls. That's where the digging and cementing comes in. If you go down far enough there's not much more of a problem. The good thing over there is that they never have septic problems.

Well....I guess it wouldn't be a problem for us...we were looking at a place that was for rent...if it sank...we'd bail!

Kip, I have friends who were renting a house in Roca Azul until recently and loved living there and being near Jocotopec. However, this year during the rains the house and foundation cracked - roof opened up an inch and the rain poured in. Their things were being ruined, so they quickly found a house to rent in Istlahuacan and moved out. I doubt all the homes in Roca Azul are the risky. I have friends who love lining there.

It was certainly fortunate they had not bought.... That was a close one. Lizzy

That's what it looked like to us. Happens all the time, and underpinning is expensive. In the case of Roca Azul, the foundations are only under the walls, therefore underpinning won't work. No other solution but to dig and cement.

Yup...definitely rent.
