Mom's
What happened to this restaurant?
Haven't eaten there in probably 10 years, not my kinda food, but went with a friend who loves it. We went at 1 for lunch, only one other table, obnoxious waitress, none of the old staff that had been there for years, and a very uninspiring tiny menu of mostly sandwiches.
Too bad, used to be one of the best businesses in the area. Nice room. . .

The obnoxious waitress should have told you what the daily specials were. They are not printed on the menu but on a white board as you enter the restaurant.

Maybe it’s because Mom is no longer with us?

I think it's because the staff has not been properly trained and the menu has not kept up with changes in what people are interested in eating. Need lower fat and sugar.

Mom died quite some time ago. Her daughter and then staff kept it running just as she did. People talked about how it was just the same. Something else has happened.

Re: Mom's
The waitress was rude and overheard by the owner who said nothing. But then, it would probably be a herculean effort for her to even stand up, let alone walk. Its clear she has found plenty of food to her liking there.
I imagine that's right about the loss of Mom being instrumental in the demise of the business but even the guys that had been there for 15 years were nowhere to be seen.
The food is very heavy in fats and sugar and I would characterize it as middle American/midwestern type food. Or something, whatever. Didn't eat, just had an orange juice, it was fresh squeezed. My friend had a sandwich that included bacon that looked like it hadn't been cooked sufficiently. Mostly white pork fat.

Re: Mom's
The last time we ate at Mom's was when Mom was still there, and we were waiting for something to be done to the car, so not much choice.
Definitely unhealthy fatty and sugary fare, at that time, and I'm not surprised it's still the same. Never went back, and not now for sure.

Re: Mom's
A group of us go there every other Sunday morning for breakfast. The food was great as always. Last Sunday there were people waiting outside to get in, it was so popular. The vast majority there were locals, probably from Guadalajara.
To me, there is no better place for breakfast. I have never been there for lunch.

Do they have eggs benedict on actual English muffins?

A good Eggs Benedict is served at Cocinart and Bobby's El Terrazza also.

Re: Mom's
Unfortunately Huerto Cafe doesn't use real ham but rather deli ham. Mom's makes their own English muffins with real ham and spinach. Really good hollandaise.
It seems Camille like to cook the way she eats--heavy fat and lots of sugar (overly sweet IMHO)

I thought CocinArt has closed down for breakfast?

Serves breakfast on weekends and will give you breakfast until around 12:30 if that's your wish at lunch time. A friend often orders Eggs Florentine at lunch since she loves it.

I can live with the deli ham at El Huerto Café. Have yet to find anywhere that makes them with peameal bacon which is usually used in Canada. And El Huerto's Hollandaise sauce is also made from scratch and very good.
