Dale's Current GR Column
Dale Palfrey wrote a great column this week addressing these looney snowflakes who want to buy guns and carry them in public. Here! I am so much more afraid of them than any of the cartels.

Awesome Trailrunner! That should be a STICKY... and should be stuck on every single immigration document... in every country of the world.

I guess until you have experienced a confrontation and intimidation your can not speak from experience...meantime we lob advice from behind our 10 feet walls, topped with electric wires, or razor wire and do not forget all the bars on the windows and doors......maybe the "loonies" from Central America would not be leaving their country if they had other means to respond to the oppression and intimidation they are suffering

You have NO idea what I have or have not experienced. I'm not your 'we' either. I have no 10 ft walls, razor wire, or electric wires. I do have bars. Fifteen years - no burglaries, robberies, assaults . . .
Can't speak for CA, but I'm sure my country of origin has kept everyone down there well stocked in armament. fffffftt

Re: Dale's Current GR Column
Lakeside7 speaks for a small subculture of Terrified Immigrants and thinks he speaks for us all. Like Trailrunner, I am not (thankfully) one of his “We’s.” No 10 foot walls topped with wire. No alarm system or video cameras. No trained attack dogs, safes, or safe rooms. No guns, bats, sprays, tasers, panic buttons. We do not feel oppressed, intimidated, or afraid. We feel sorry for the people living in the alternate universe he describes and wonder why in the world they continue to live in a place where they are constantly terrified. These poor people. I feel sorry for them — when they are not annoying the crap out of me.

"We" signifies a lot of people, maybe it's so, and maybe it isn´t, but one thing for sure is, it doesn´t include me.
IMO......pure unsubstantiated generalization.

Re: Dale's Current GR Column
Me neither.....If something happened that made me "afraid enough to want a gun" I would move. Plain and simple. I do exercise caution and common sense at all times.

It always amazes me when those bundles of negativity think they're speaking for the majority, and further mystifies me as to WHY they stay here, feeling as they do.
I'm with those who would leave if I felt the need to carry a firearm.

I would leave if I had to have a weapon as well but then f you are paranoid and join these crime groups they really get over the top. There has been one murder in the last year and a bunch of petty crime.. and robberies.if you cannot live with that then you need to live somewhere else, it is that simple.

Re: Dale's Current GR Column
Good grief Brigitte, you obviously have no idea of the number of Mexicans that have been murder in this area since the beginning of this year. Most of my neighbor would rather not talk about them but are quick to point out that if an expat is murder then it makes the news.

Re: Dale's Current GR Column
HB, I was speaking about expats not Mexicans... and yes I know about Mexicans although I really do not count the dead , there are just too many.
So far expats have been lucky and are pretty much in a bubble but with AMLO gong after a lart part of the cartel s income, that may change too.. Extortion and kidnapping could become a problem for expat as well.. Only the future can tell.

It is important that you keep on spreading that rumor too. It's not a normal gun. It is a machine gun. And we have an armed vehicle driving around the perimeter as well. Oh and we're flying Drones over our property to get a view from above. A 2nd security guard controls the drones over the property and viewing what the camera shows over a large monitor next to his desk. He will be armed as well.
I feel really safe, now.
All kidding aside, in about 2009, I was writing my Tech Talk article for the paper and did not respond to the door bell, at the front gate. So the thief, believing no one was there, climbed a wall and entered my house. With a weapon in his hand. It was a screwdriver. He robbed me at screwdriver point and got maybe 600 to 900 pesos and my very cheap cell phone. The robber was shaking because he was a scared as I was. He didn't expect to find anyone in the house.
To make a long story short, he was a drug addict and was placed in jail. And of course I overreacted and have a much better security system now than I need

De acuerdo.
In the North my homes were burglarized more than 12 times, I lost count. And I lived in upscale neighborhoods.
A gun pointed at me 7 times and shot at 3 times. Once by the police who made an error when someone had reported a car like mine that was involved in a crime.
A year ago in Houston, my car was broken in to and about $3000 of my stuff was stolen. The restaurant parking lot had cameras that caught all of the action. The police showed up three hours later and viewed the video. They recognized the perps who had long rap sheets and said that they lived about three blocks away. They said that it was a low priority crime and they had other more important crimes to investigate but that they would file a report for our insurance carrier. They filed a report and that was the end of the story. Charges were never pressed on the perps because the police were "too busy." So for me, after 12 years here in Mexico and no burglaries (knock on wood), I sleep well at night. YMMV

Re: Dale's Current GR Column
My grandmother was burglarized 8 times before she moved, he dog kidnapped and held for ransom when she went to get it she has a pistol under her seat and the car was broken into and the pistol stolen. She had a shotgun and would shoot at anyone trying to go over her wall.. That was Marseille in France 30 years ago. Makes Mexico look pale by comparison.
My husband worked in Oakland n a bank and he had a gun put to hs head while the perps were discussing whether they shoot him or not.
So , so far this has not happened to us in Mexico either..

Re: Dale's Current GR Column
Those posts seem to indicate that one should avoid living in upscale neighborhoods, or working in banks. Makes sense.
