Re: 2019 Crime survey
When you first told friends and family that you were moving to Mexico, is there anyone among who didn't have somebody warn you that it was a dangerous, crime ridden place and you really shouldn't go there ?

Yup! EVERYBODY and they all said we would be back in six months. That was 23 years ago.

And I bet all you posters are making your fearless comments from one or more of the following situations..... bravehearts
Living behind 10/12 foot walls
Maybe topped with electric wire...just in case
Or razor wire....just to be sure
Have security cameras
Living in a gated community
And willing to speculate 3/5% of you have experienced some sort of "incident"

You are wrong, in my case, I have none of those. Not even the last one.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
I live in Ajijic centro where the houses are all joined together. I know all my neighbors and have none of the above. Sure I lock my doors at night. I had a garmin unit stolen from our van about 6 years ago because we left it unlocked. I haven't had or witnessed any serious crime nor anyone in my circle of friends.

The only thing I have is walls that anyone with a ladder could get over. I don't live in a gated community. I don't have electric or razor wire and I don't have security cameras. And I've NEVER had an incident nor seen an incident.
It's not about being brave. It's about being factual.

I have walls like tons of Mexicans do because the house came with it. No electric wire. No razor wire. No security cameras. Live on a regular street in Riberas not a gated community. The only incidents I have had HERE are 2 pilfering maids. Now before I came to Mexico I could write a book about the “incidents” both violent and nonviolent that happened. Mexico is a cakewalk compared to that.
I choose not to associate with the Chicken Littles around here and I eventually hear about crime without the National Enquirer type of reporting that goes on in that site. Oh, and I’m not a Lisa Jorgensen fan and she sells subscriptions with that kind of crap. Obviously, if you like hanging around with those nervous Nellies, go for it but that doesn’t make you smarter.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
I have never understood people who make blanket statements about a group of people they in truth know nothing about. I am a single woman living alone down here for 11 years now. I have none of the things Lakeside7 is so sure we all have. So guess I am one of the bravehearts he mocks. I am sick to death of people like lakeside7 whining and trembling in their shoes while mocking those of us who grew a pair and are living our lives. I grew up in a rough, dying industrial city on the U.S. east coast. I lived in a neighborhood between two warring gangs on the West Coast. This is life! Go find yourself some safe, secure corner somewhere where you can pee your pants every time a car backfires. But stop acting as though fear is a virtue and those who are not joining you in screaming that the sky is falling don’t know what is going on. We do. We just deal with it differently than you do.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
I'm among those with "none of the above" security measures except for the walls which came with the property. I'm crammed in like CBOB between neighbors. Eleven years ago, some items were snitched from my pickup camper since it didn't lock properly and was parked on the street.
What I'm wondering is where those ideas of Lakeside 7 came from. The same well of negativity I've heard before, perhaps?

Gringal, Lakeside 7 subscribes to the same fear mindset as the silly posters on the crime site.
Your previous question regarding what did people say when you said you were moving to Mexico is a good one. Wish you were on that site so you could ask them. Curious what their answers would be. Maybe I will . . . nah.

You don't look half stupid. I read somewhere that an enlarged amygdala can cause irrational fear. Of everything. Best that you have yours checked. They can install a Schrader valve; making it a do-it-yourself fix.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
When my parents moved permanently to Puerto Vallarta in the early 1990's, they were warned about the violence and potential civil war. It turns out these people were referring to the Chiapas crisis of the time, and then they realized how far away geographically and culture wise that really was.gringal wrote:When you first told friends and family that you were moving to Mexico, is there anyone among who didn't have somebody warn you that it was a dangerous, crime ridden place and you really shouldn't go there ?
I warned them about the popular image of a retiree lounging under a coconut palm tree. That many people are killed, or seriously injured by falling coconuts.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
My adult son assured me that every few years, bands of Mexican revolutionary types went around and murdered gringos with MACHETES!
...Then he came to visit for a few weeks and loved it.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
My mom thought the same thing until she came with us for a visit in 2011 just before we moved here. She has been back several more times for months at a time. She said she wants some of her ashes sprinkled under the jacaranda trees on the caraterra in la floresta.

Where do you live, Mars?
I leave my garage gate open all day, don´t lock the house doors to the outside until i go to bed…...AND, no, I´m not telling you where I live, as you worry me more than all the criminals in area.
At least they are not "chicken littles"

Re: 2019 Crime survey
The little wall protecting where I live in central Ajijic has that ageless, impenetrable, Mexican security deterrent: broken-up Coke bottles poking out of the top.......with maybe a few Sprite and Jarritos to mix in some color. I'd have to check.

We have a 5' chainlink fence
Would NEVER consider electric wire
The only way I'll ever see razor wire from the inside is if they put me in a U.S. prison
Would never consider security cameras (who ya think is going to look at them pitchers?)
Only scaredy twats live in those
Going on 3-years and the only incident was when I hired a Gringo (note, not extranjero) worshipped
"contractor" who turned out to be a thief and a con man. Have I mentioned Enrique Hernandez before?

Re: 2019 Crime survey
Crime in Mexico?? I thought all of the Mexican murderers, drug dealers, and rapists moved to the US. Maybe those new to Mexico should tune in to the America's Most Wanted TV show. They just might recognize their expat neighbor.

Re: 2019 Crime survey
I think it was last week that the Guadalajara Reporter had an article listing the most dangerous cities in the world. It would appear that the city of Baltimore has a murder rate much higher then Guadalajara. Can this really be possible ? Does anyone happen to know if the numbers take in to account all the people which are "disappeared" in guad and its suburbs. If so, Baltimore is one hell of a dangerous place.
