Refrigerator repair
Does anyone have the address of the father/son team (can´t even remember their names) in Riberas that services refrigerators?

Refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves, washing machines, dryers... Gualberto Real and son can fix them all.

Appliances here in Mexico drive me crazy. I've been in this house seven years.
I installed our 4th microwave about 6 months ago.
We're on our second fridge as of three years ago and its required a new sensor and pump.
We love our third oven.
New dishwasher about a year ago
Our second front loading washer needed a new computer two years ago. $5,500 pesos.
I think of this every time I'm about to board a Volaris or AeroMexico flight.

I think, SunFan, that it may be a good idea to check all the outlets that those appliances plug into and make sure they're grounded. I'm assuming that the oven is gas?

I have whole house surge protection so have never lost a device to spikes/surges. All my more delicate electronics - computer, TV, Stereo, Shaw converter have lasted all these years. Everything is grounded as verified by Brad Grieves.
The new oven is in fact electric. Far more precise than the IO and IO Maybe crap it replaced. I have full solar so I cook for free. OK I'll confess. I use the BBQ, my wife is the mistress of the oven.

What "whole house surge protection" do you have". I know a few out there that think they "whole house surge protection" but they don't.

Good to know! But what you're experiencing is not normal so I think something is awry. I'm stumped... and I've never lost anything to that degree in 23 years living in Mexico. I envy you your electric oven though!

Hmmmm...something wrong there. I have had all our appliances for 7 years. Had a motherboard in the dryer replaced once and a new defrosting element in the fridge. The oven, stove, washer, dishwasher, microwave, etc. no problems.

I agree that something must be wrong. My appliances haven't gone bad in ten years here. Still using the original microwave, fridge, washer, dryer and dishwasher. Stove top and oven are gas; no problems. Maybe it has to do with your area. I'm in Ajijic Centro.

Re: Refrigerator repair
I bought a "Save-a-Watt" device several years ago which in addition to measuring electrical consumption also shows the voltage. The outlets in the house were always within 130V + or - 5% or so.
And back to Slainte39's issue.....

Re: Refrigerator repair
I have a KillaWatt device, too, but it only of course measures "at the moment". So many surges and drops from CFE, and for example in a previous house the whole neighbourhood was affected for years. The drops and recoveries are just as bad, of not worse, than the surges. Where I am now, rarely, but I also replaced much of the wiring and put in a new breaker panel.
I worked for a few months with an expert electrician (from the US who started a brief business here), and he commented regularly on the poor quality and lack of ability of many of the "whole house" protectors we would find installed. One brand in particular (unfortunately, can't remember the name) is popular here because it is not expensive. Wish I could say more, but I didn't learn enough.

Re: Refrigerator repair
Does a surge protector protect against low voltage situations like brown outs. These can also affect appliances especially those with motors if they are running during a low voltage situation.

You have to check the specs, because many don't.

This should help monitor voltage.

Re: Refrigerator repair
It would appear that Whole Home Protection varies greatly and I've been reading a lot about its limitations. The VPR (Voltage Protection Rating) number is the one to keep your eye on. The LOWER the rating the better... and a rating of 700 does NOT protect much especially if it's the ONLY type of surge protection that you have.

Re: Refrigerator repair
Most don't. The ones sold by Brico do both surge and brownout protection.CanuckBob wrote:Does a surge protector protect against low voltage situations like brown outs. These can also affect appliances especially those with motors if they are running during a low voltage situation.
