Seeking mover recommendations
Any mover recommendations for a move from south-central Texas to Lakeside? House contents are typical for a small 3bd house (NOB). Positive and negative insight would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Seeking mover recommendations
I used Strom White when I moved from the Virgin Islands. They coordinated with the mover there who got everything on the boat, then over land to the border where Strom White took over. Flawless.

From personal experience I don't think you can do better than Strom White. Great company.

Just my 2 cents worth- Beware of expats offering to move you. The last thing you want is to start off your Mexican adventure by having all your goods seized because they are operating without the proper permits and insurance. Go with a reputable moving company like Strom White or Lake Chapala Moving.

Depends. My bad experience with them is detailed on TOB. Maybe they pay more attention to doing it right when it's a long distance move, using their own personnel. They subbed out my move from SMA to here.

Even a local move with Strom White had me in tears and they did use furniture pads. But, they did everything in a hurry and I had chunks taken out of a bookcase and desk. Watch carefully and control the move if you use them.

I'll bet they sub out 90% of the work. They are more like brokers.

I'm planning to see if Lake Chapala Moving has adequate storage for our household and use them if they do.

Re: Seeking mover recommendations
I appreciate the information. Seems rather hit or miss so far. We're not in a rush, so we'll take as long as possible to make a decision. Personally, I hope we can find great stuff locally and avoid the entire ordeal.

Sometimes it's best to just get rid of everything and start from scratch when you get here. Most rental and house sales are furnished. We moved down with 5 pieces of luggage and our bank cards.

If one is not fussy about furniture than leave your stuff at home. BUT if you have quality furniture, it is worth the cost of shipping since items here are of lesser quality...

I wonder what magic occurs, when Mexican furniture manufacturers send their products across the border, for sale in the quality furniture stores in the USA. Especially those very expensive leather recliners. Anybody know?

Re: Seeking mover recommendations
I have only experience with Strom White
They coordinated my rather complicated move from Ohio to Ajijic 3 years ago. They shipped lots of my stuff to family in Cleveland, lots got shipped to Houston and the rest, which didn't go to neighbors and Goodwill, successfully arrived at our new house in Ajijic without a single issue. Well actually one glass was broken. If I did it again I would bring more furniture, tools, books and other stuff.
As CanuckBob suggested in an earlier post, they kind of acted as brokers...

After having a less than positive experience with Strom White in 2008, I decided to talk to Lake Chapala Moving. They gave a very good quote and Winston is a pleasure to deal with.

The manufacturers of high quality furniture and yes there is high quality here if you know where to look, pack the furniture extremely well. Every piece is wrapped in the white foam type and then bububle wrapp or in carton..It is packed way better than furniture on moving trucks.

Re: Seeking mover recommendations
When I moved we wrapped everythng and packed everythng and shipped it LTL to the Strom warehouse at the border. They atored it for s for 5 months and brought it to our house. The two metal floor metal lamps that were not wrapped by us were broken.. theyre were a cheal afterthought so it did not matter...Everything else arrived in good shape but we had almost no furniture, only a couple of chairs and tansu chests.
