It was a large and extensive problem caused by wind and torrential rain. I was also without power until about 4 in the afternoon. I think they did an amazing job considering...

May have been, however when I call 071 it would be nice if someone actually answered the phone. The official policy was 12 hours. Some update would be helpful...

Re: CFE Out
They were inundated with calls and overwhelmed. This is not the only area that was affected. When I first called at 6 am, I got Mexico City. At 8:30, I finally got a fairly local person who, by the location on my cell phone, knew exactly what street I was on and gave me the report number. I was told 10 hours. Are they perfect? No, but....
It's not freezing cold and it's not stinkin' hot and if you have a tinaco you have water. It was an inconvenience, nothing more.

When you moved to the central highlands of Mexico what did you expect? Most of us are happy when a severe storm knocks out power over a large area and CFE is able to get it back up and running in half a day or less. Answering phones? Updates? You’re not in Kansas anymore.

Re: CFE Out
I did not know what to expect so I had zero expectation except for the climate and I am not disappointed. Found out that you can live without computer, phone or electricity for a while..if you are retired you really do not have a lot of serious deadlines so life is good.. So CFE does not answer, like if they did not knew a bunch of people were out.. tey will get to it when they can and meanwhile relax..

Yes, no one died...Just concerned about the refrigerator contents...
Refrigerated food should be safe as long as the power was out for no more than 4 hours and the refrigerator door was kept shut. Discard any perishable food (such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or leftovers) that has been at temperatures above 40° F for 2 hours or more (or 1 hour if temperatures are above 90º F).Jun 6, 2018

Re: CFE Out
Buy a cheap generator and plug in the fridge. How hard can that be?

Re: CFE Out
That was funny TR! He is a worrier.
I don't actually care what the FDA says. If the power goes out, I do not open the fridge or the freezer until the power comes back on. I also have gel packs frozen in the freezer.
When the power came back on, I checked the freezer immediately and everything was still frozen solid and, in the fridge, everything was still cold.
If you want to be REALLY sure, get a small chest freezer. The "cold air" doesn't fall out when the door (lid) is opened. A chest freezer will keep things frozen solid for 48 hours without electricity. Learned that on the coast.
A small, portable INVERTER generator, like the Honda 2000i, is all you need to give a fridge a boost or a freezer a boost or your pool pump a boost or your submersible aljibe pump a boost or to watch TV or operate a computer or fans. It is not big enough for AC units but it would power a portable AC unit.
All of the above is Plan C.

A little extreme don't you think? I wouldn´t worry about food until the power had been off a couple of days like it used to be, 30 or 40 years ago. Even if everything got up to room temperature, you just gambled and ate it. Never lost a kid or an animal.

Re: CFE Out
Exactly. Or you cook it, after which you can then freeze it again.
Four hours . . . obviously never been canping.
