Mexican bank accounts with no activity for 3 years can be considered abandoned and closed.

This may have happened to me.

Bancomer told me they take the funds after two years of no activity.

Law says 3 years. I'm going in tomorrow. MVa. Didn't get the 90 day letter. Vamos a ver.

To answer your question, No, I didn't know that Mexican banks can take your money if your account is inactive for three years. Another reason to keep money in north of the border bank accounts which are insured by the government.

It is/was just a peso account. Luckily I subscribe to the philosophy to never invest more in MX than I can afford to lose. I will talk to them today.

Abandoned accts in the US are confiscated too. Insurance has nothing to do with abandoned accts, only with the bank failing.
