SAT non-compliant
Went out for a ride to get out of the house and stopped at the Farmacia Guadalajara at the hospital. Checked all the open tiendas, abarrotes, Super Lake, and all the people walking around and only 1 woman walking alone by SL was masked. Both cashiers at Farm Guad and the one customer were unmasked and unprotected in any way. Absolutely business as usual. Unbelievable. Not even the #$'?@)ing FARMACIA! What is wrong with these people?

Re: SAT non-compliant
I guess they believe as long as they don't touch their face or get coughed or sneezed on they will be ok assuming they wash up when they get home.

This is a reality we will need to deal with. Take care of yourself first. You cannot save everyone from themselves. That is not being selfish. Just try to inform them but they will make their own choices.
Take care!
Take care!

Thing is, if you go to any store you must face the cashier. Up close and personal. Then you hand to hand exchange paper that could be contaminated. How is it possible to avoid this? Home delivery seems the only way but home delivery is only provided by a few stores!

TR I would suggest....
Use gloves when out and discard as soon as you're home or if no gloves wash your hands as soon as you get home. I assume you'll be wearing a mask of course. Money should decontaminate in a few hours by itself.
I can't tell you how many times a mask has kept me from touching my mouth and nose.

Re: SAT non-compliant
Yes. Good advice. I am using a mask and at least one glove. ATM touch screens won't work with gloves. You're right about touching your face too.
I discard my gloves at the store.

No on the shoes, I wear flipflops and don't expect my face and my shoes to connect.
Yes on clothes. Sometimes wash hair too.
Who is saying it isn't airborne?

Re: SAT non-compliant
Dr. David Price who is an ICU doctor at Weill Cornell in NY has a youtube video about the virus and he downplays the airborne transmission angle contrary to the CDC guidelines. He emphasizes it is face contact that spreads the virus. The guy is a Rice graduate so I am sure he is super smart but I have some doubts about his logic.
So I ask you this.
1. If someone 2 meters away from you sneezes.
2. You turn your face.
3. The droplets of the sneeze arrive on your body and hands.
4. An hour later you rub your eyes.
5. You are infected.
The hands transferred the virus to your eyes. Logical.
Not a good message to put out there in my opinion.

Completely different experience in the city:
Went to the city today for groceries. I was impressed with Fresko. Santizer at door. The cart bar handle is wiped down in front of you, even UNDERNEATH the handle and sides. The store cafe has removed all chairs and tables...to go only. There are marks on the floor at the register for distancing. One person was rung through and packed their own groceries before the next one customer was started. ALL store employees in masks. Fresh gloves were used to serve customers.
Costso similar, but I didn't see anyone wiping the carts. Limits of 2 per customer of many things. All tables and chairs removed. Take out only.
Both stores had many things sold out.
We had to eat so went to a fast food place in the mall. Only about 25% of tables. You choose your table and the seats, and seat back plus table and edges are sanitized in front of you. Food came in a paper bag, to avoid plastic trays.
We chose this little outdoor mall as it is our regular and we know that very few people are there on Tuesday. All eating areas we could see were devoid of seating.
Large stand up posters were warning of the virus and how to protect yourself.
Now we isolate again.

There is now an 8pm curfew as reported by Harry Bublin. Maybe that will stop the kids from gathering at the malecon and in the streets.

Many of my Mexican friends think this is a hoax. Distrust for government and authority run deep in Mexican culture. I think they just automatically reject whatever the government tells them.

Remind them of the Spanish flu. Mexico was severely affected. Many still remember.

Mine too, Alex, and rightfully so. However, in this case I think it is more like denial.
Saw this on Jocotepec En Línea the other day (paraphrasing):
Mexicans think the virus is a joke. And yet they can see the image of the Virgin on tortilla.

Re: SAT non-compliant
Gamina posted that there is an 8 pm curfew. As of today that has been confirmed to be false news circulating on some Facebook pages. TOB has a recent thread on this. The patrol cars and ambulances and firetrucks that are driving around and making public announcements are only advising people to stay home if it is non-essential business. So far, it is not mandatory and not being enforced just highly encouraged. Kind of like the stop signs in México.

Actually it should have been called the Kansas flu as that where it started from pigs I have been told. The army shipped people and the virus all over the world.

Update, I briefly went out just now to the mercado en la plaza of Chapala, later I decided to check out the malecón, there were police walking up and down with a megaphone pleading to people to go home and stay in their homes.
