The best $25 I ever spent was on a small air compressor thingy to pump up my own tires that plugs into the cigarette lighter of the car. It takes a long time to fill the tire, but that thing has saved me so much grief and hassle. Unless your tire has a gash in it, or a big nail hole, it'll pump up the tire so you can drive to the nearest tire repair place. I've used it when the tire was noticeably low on air and even when it was dead flat.

I always keep a can of that tire inflater/sealer in my trunk. Fills it fast and temporarily seals the hole. Available at Wal-Mart and AutoZone.
