This was posted to his Facebook page by his daughter.

“It is with an absolute broken heart that I announce the passing of my Dad, who left us suddenly yesterday, November 8th, in his home in Mexico. Words cannot describe what this man meant to me, and the aching in my soul now that he is gone. You were my best friend, and I don’t know how I will go on without you, Dad. I love you so much, and I will miss you every day I can only hope you’ve found Matt on your journey onward.”

Oh, how sad. I only knew him from the forums, but always enjoyed his point of view.

I only met Mike and his lovely daughter one time. He impressed me as a genuine gentleman - a rarity these days, and will sorely be missed by his friends and family.

So sorry. May he rest in peace. Gosh, he didn't seem that old.

So sad. I had a chance to meet him and his daughter as well as other expats in Chapala where I held a small Sushi party 2 years ago. He was very intelligent and good guy.
I was looking forward to meet him and other expats but I could not come to Mexico because of Covid situations. RIP

I'd known Mike for over 5 years. An intelligent and thoughtful friend who was a whiz with computers.

Does anyone know what happened? Did he have a stroke or heart attack?

And also, I did not think he was that old. Does anyone know how old he was?

I thought he was younger. So sad say I, just 2 days short of my 82nd birthday.

I'm Chris Riley, Mike's younger brother. I'm currently at Lake Chapala with Mike's daughter Erica to take care of Mike's affairs.

On behalf of Erica I'd like to give my heart felt thanks for everyone's wishes and condolences on this post.

Mike died late Sunday night of an apparent heart attack - waiting for autopsy - that he thought was just indigestion all day. Cecilia tried to take him to the hospital, but Mike insisted he was fine. Cecilia found him at his place Monday morning after Mike failed to answer his phone.

He will be cremated and his ashes spread on Lake Chapala, along with some ashes of his 38 year old son Matthew who passed away just 2 months ago, also due to heart ailment. Mike was 69. Far too young.

There is a place in my heart that will forever feel empty without Mike. However, I'm moving down to Lake Chapala in 2022, and if I find half the friends he appears to have on this forum, I will be a happy man. Thank you all for your kindness.

@ChrisR, Thank you for posting about Mike. His knowledge about computers and oh-so-many other things, and his eagerness to share it with others will be greatly missed.

Condolences to you and to Erica. You lost your brother and your nephew; she lost her Dad and her brother, both in just 2 months. Those are heartbreaking losses. Earlier this year I lost my only two brothers in less than 4 weeks; the deaths of loved ones within a short timespan are hard to fathom and I wish you and Erica peace and strength at this difficult time.

When someone wants you to go to the hospital, GO!

About two weeks ago, my symptoms were worrisome enough that I did go to SAT hospital, and it turned out to be a very good thing I did. Serious heart problem. Since then, it's been treated and....I'm still here. Too tragic that Mike didn't do that. We'll miss him.

BTW, we are fortunate to have the SAT hospital here in our area. My experience there was good. Considerate and efficient staff. Good facilities. Much better than having to go to Guadalajara for just about anything needed, medical-wise.

I'm a little late seeing this but I am also shocked! My sympathies and condolences go out to his family, and to all of us who knew Mike. Big loss.
