WOMEN'S GLASSES

My wife doesn't care for the frame choices she is seeing at the Lake or Costco. Would imagine there are larger shops with a better selection in Guadalajara? Anyone with experience that can give recommendations?

If you haven't tried them, the Optometry shop on Hidalgo just west of the Ajijic plaza has some very nice frames IMO.  We also like the associated Optometrist operating there.

Prices are reasonable and they don't try to up-sell you.  Have also bought contact lenses there. And they take US credit cards with no mark-up.

I just bought a pair of stylish eyeglasses and matching sunglasses from EyebuyDirect.com. They are 40% less than you would pay in Mexico. ask for acetate frames. Huge selection and lens coatings. We will see. Most frames made in Italy, these are Chinese knockoffs of Euro design, but Mexican customs doesn't care, unless they copy designer logos.

Thank you for the advice but heav we n forbid the options at the Lake just ARE NOT cutting it for her tastes!. I know better than even attempt to influence her choices and just trying to accommodate the decision process!

There are several (maybe 6) glass frames places at Plaza del Sol on Lopez Mateos in Guad.

my immigration attorney just got 2 pair of well made eyeglasses - nice colors @ Salud Digna (www.(lentes.salud-digna.org) looks like they have quite a few optical clinics in Guadalajara.

fyi, I have bought frames online. Neither pair fit great. Big difference in being able to try on first. What they look like in a picture and how they fit your face can be very different.

BisbeeGal made a very important point.
(I, personally, no longer need glasses for getting around due to a cataract surgery years ago, but do need them for working on the computer and reading. Therefore, looks don't matter much) However, fit does. I wouldn't advise buying from a source that wouldn't have a try-on possibility.

My glasses from eyebuydirect - perfect. Beautiful lightly blue tinted lenses - think Johnny Depp on one of his cool days. The two critical decisionmakers in eye glasses are the strength and the diameter between pupils. Your eye prescription should indicate the diameters, and they custom build the frames and lens to match. A rough rule of thumb is that it if you have a strong prescription, the lens size must be smaller. Otherwise they will look like glass bottles and be heavy on your face.
There was a man I once met in Puerto Vallarta, since RIP, he had amazing rose colored glasses.
