Social Security benfits
I will be entering my eligibility to receive SSI in short while. Is it legal to live in Mexico and collect benefits. Do I need an official address in US and US bank for deposits. Any support on this matter is appreciated.
Thanks for this web board so much great information on a daily basis.

SSI rules are different than regular SS rules.

The rules for receiving Social Security overseas do not apply to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Most recipients of SSI are not entitled to benefits outside the United States. SSI benefits will stop if a recipient is outside the United States for more than 30 days, and benefits won't start up again until the recipient is back in the country for at least 30 days.

Interesting. Didn’t know that and that’s good info. I have always received my regular SS benefits deposited in Bancomer. In fact I applied for SS through the consulate in Guadalajara.

SSI is Social Security disability. SS is Social Security based on your age and employment history. The US Consulate in Guadalajara can help you apply for SS benefits. They can be contacted at <fbu.guadalajara@ssa.gov> and have been very helpful for me.
