We're not out of the woods yet. We can avoid a fifth wave by continuing to be cautious, ie distancing, masking indoors.

COVID: A fifth wave of the pandemic is likely in Mexico
Mexico's Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo Lopez-Gatell points out that if the increase [in daily new confirmed official cases] reaches 20,000 infections, we would be talking about a fifth wave of the epidemic.

What? If masking and social distancing didn't stop the 1st wave, the 2nd wave, the 3rd wave, nor the 4th wave, how is it going to stop the 5th? Sounds like the definition to insanity.

Those precautions don't stop the waves, they prevent you from catching it when they happen. Masking, social distancing, vaccination and boosters. I never stopped wearing a mask. But then, I'm seventy with pre-existing conditions.

You seem to be unaware that plenty of people ignored those precautions, were totally non-compliant, and therefore keep spreading it.

The definition of insanity is to ignore all the precautions that medical professionals, scientists, and the govts were begging people to comply with.

It is also insane to claim that the precautions don't work, when you know damn well that not everyone was cooperating.

Ferret all the elderly, specially those with pre-existing conditions I understand their need and desire to take extra precautions to protect themselves. I hope everyone stays safe. But also please understand that the masks are officially off for most. Most people feel, after over 2 nightmarish years from hell, that this pandemic is over. Even with a 5th wave few will ever go back to masks and most don't want the vaccines either. We will learn to live with Covid just like we do with the flu. Anyways, now the media is telling us that we need to start taking precautions against the monkeypox.

I also know damn well that not all people would or could obey all the protocols. And I also know damn well that they never worked. In some of the most compliant of countries the virus surged and surged just like nearly everywhere else. Yes many of these countries had much lower mortalities but they also had much lower comorbidities due to a healthier population.

Wasn't there someone named Typhoid Mary? I've seen a few here. Don't have any idea how many they spread to / how many died.

I do know I have a niece in the US who is a Phyicians Assistant / office manager for an ortho surgeon. Despite her best efforts she got covid twice from patients!!!!

There you go.

My observations here in FL are that a lot of people that get covid that were vaccinated got the Pfizer vaccine. A lower percentage had the Moderna vaccine. In either case, the symptoms were mild and not life threatening.

I am with Ferret. Do what YOU need to do to protect yourself and ignore everyone else.

To me all efforts are like wave attenuators used oceanside. They don’t prevent the waves but they do lessen the damage
