Or necessity is the mother of invention... any way you want to look at it, this is cool...

I wonder what the cost of desalination per liter is versus other systems?

Other systems need power to desalinate. These use the up/down action of the waves.

Yes it is self powering, however it would be interesting to obtain the cost comparison; just me and my fixation on numbers.

I was assistant manager at Morning Star Beach Club which was the luxury end of Frenchman’s Reef (now a Marriott) on St. Thomas 1989-91 and they had a desal plant for the hotel. It was sheer luxury on a water starved island to take lonnnnng showers plus the water tasted great.  I have no idea what the cost was to run it but tourists just never understand how to conserve water so it was probably cheaper in the long run.

I think it comes down to what the options are in the community that needs it. It would be more expensive in some communities and less expensive in others.

I loved the video, thanks for sharing.

Oneka Technologies response:

As we use only wave energy to operate, the price is dependent on many factors such as the project location.

To give you an estimate:

Project around 20,000 m3/d, around $2/m3
Project around 2,000 m3/d, around $4/m3
