Replacement!

Had mine done 5+ weeks ago at Hospital San Antonio by Dr. Gonzalez Urzúa; his son Dr. Gonzalez Ross assisted.

Used a walker for a few days, then a cane for a week or so.

At 2 weeks I was taking gingerly walks on the smooth malecón. At 3 weeks I was walking 1/2 a mile daily. At 4 weeks I was back on the cobblestones and jagged sidewalks of Ajijic for a mile a day. Now walking as much as I want; did 2 miles around town yesterday.

If any of you are contemplating this surgery but worried about a lengthy recovery time, those days are past thanks to newer techniques and the skill of our local surgeons.

fyi, mi esposo had the same surgery, same doctors, same hospital in Feb. of this year.

200K all-in. Surgical team; anesthesiologist; hospital stay (1 night); x-ray at conclusion of surgery in OR; all follow-up visits with surgeon.

I left off this important item:  of the 200K, appx. 70K was for the device itself.  Medical equipment is priced globally.  Mine is ceramic ball socket with a titanium stem.

Also a family member had hip replacement by Dr. Gorge Gonzalez at HSA. No problem. Great results. Walking great after a couple of weeks but did have 8 sessions of PT. Very helpful for fast recovery.

Bisbee,

That is so great. Is that 200K pesos or US/CAN Dollars?

A personal question, I know, B-Gal but... was any of the 200k covered by insurance? Just wondering as to the potential that Nationals could even come close to having that life-changing surgery.

We don't have MX insurance so we paid out of pocket.

HSAT advertises it takes some MXN private health insurance.

But, Rick, wouldn't many Nationals have their surgeries covered under MXN Public Health Insurance Plan(s), what was/is IMSS or Insabi?

Probably/hopefully because most certainly could not afford 200k pesos.

There are far more Nationals in the waiting room at HSAT than there were when it opened 3 years ago.  Obviously I don't know if they have insurance.

A MXN friend has used HSAT and both Drs. Gonzales for back and spine surgeries.  However I never asked if they have insurance.

I actually did a lot of inline skating in DC area until I retired to Bisbee whose hilly streets with many houses accessible only by 50+ stair steps, made skating a challenge.

btw, a friend asked how long my surgical scar is, so I measured it. 4 inches.
