Re: Buttermilk
I love buttermilk. Used to drink it all the time in Toronto before I moved down here.
I couldn't find commercial buttermilk in any of the sores locally so I decided to make my own. I followed craft recipes. It took about a week if I remember correctly.
When I tasted it I was badly disappointed. Didn't like it. It didn't taste anything like the prepared stuff. I imagine the prepared buttermilk is manufactured quite differently than home made.

Re: Buttermilk
I have bought the powdered version at Super Lake or Gourmet Garage. In fact, I now have 2 cans of it because I didn’t realize I already had some. Works perfectly fine for the uses I had for it in baking.

Sunfan,
Maybe you did not churn it long enough?

P.S. My mom grew up with buttermilk and I never liked it.
