Literally, "Your Mileage May Vary," coming from the small print in (American?) automobile commercials in the 70's and 80's. It has come to mean an acknowledgement that the opinion of the poster may not be shared by everyone.

Coming from the states...the cops don't always know the law and they do ask for treats or favors sometimes. However, part of police training is being taught how to say whatever you want in court and make it appear that you are telling the full truth and nothing but the truth..."because when you have the bad guys and not enough evidence, you have to do something to put them in jail." - VA cop with others around agreeing.

I think they are like everyone else...some good and some bad. I've met both.
